Yesterday, an article was posted on WeChat Moments, titled "A map of the differences between Guangzhou people." The content starts from another article talking about the discrimination circle of Beijing people, and talks about the discrimination circle of Guangzhou people. The writing is fluent and the main idea is very desirable - there is actually no discrimination among Guangzhou people.
If you are interested, you can click here to view the original text. However, several friends and I disagreed with the information in the text. Generally speaking, the author's understanding of Guangzhou people is still too "new". With the encouragement of several friends, I took up my pen (machine) and wrote this article, with the intention of adding some personal opinions to the original text.
It must be stated that similar words such as "discrimination" and "look down on" in the following text are only used for writing style and do not have serious literal meanings. The so-called "discrimination" is actually a neutral usage. In fact, my friends in Guangzhou and I often use this as a topic of conversation for each other after dinner, without any intention of playing tricks on the map. Please forgive me if this offends me.
Guangzhou people’s definition of Guangzhou is actually very narrow. Basically, the area starting from Huangpu Development Zone in the east, Fangcun in the west, Haizhu District in the south, and Baiyun District in the north is the "Guangzhou urban area". . In this part of the area, there are old and new ones. Guangzhou people have a very simple definition of administrative regions - taking the Pearl River as the boundary, it is directly divided into Henan and Hebei. Henan refers to Haizhu District, and Hebei refers to Yuexiu, Dongshan and Liwan Districts. You see, the administrative plans here are all old settings, and they are often one of the important indicators for identifying the knowledge of new and old Guangzhou people. If you said you were from Henan in Guangzhou, 10 years ago everyone would have thought you were from Haizhu District, but now and in the future the ambiguity will be greater.
I think the so-called discrimination map mostly comes from family background. Which administrative region you come from can probably guess 50% or 60% of your family background, which naturally forms stereotypes of various social classes. The four old districts in the eyes of Guangzhou people are Yuexiu, Dongshan, Liwan and Haizhu. Naturally, people from the Old Fourth District formed the first echelon of the discrimination circle - Old Guangzhou.
1 Yuexiu and Dongshan
Yuexiu District is actually the core area of ??Guangzhou City, gathering the most important agencies and units of the provincial and municipal governments, and is also the core place of business and trade. Yuexiu District is full of narrow lanes and sharply turning viaducts, and the residents of Yuexiu District are mostly families of members of the core party and government organs (grassroots) and local small businessmen in Guangzhou. Due to the existence of the tomb of the Nanyue King, the people of Yuexiu always have an imperial aura. Coupled with the blessing of Yuexiu Mountain's Feng Shui treasure land, it can be said that you can walk with the wind and overlook other residents of the city.
Nowadays, it is not difficult to hack the residents of Yuexiu District. Basically, it is inseparable from the floating population (the famous prime minister’s problem: Guangzhou Railway Station) and international friends on Xiaobei Road. You can also hack Zhanxi Road by the way. A cargo distribution center.
Dongshan District has been a place where wealthy families lived a long time ago. It can be described as an ancient noble residential villa area. There are still many small villa buildings with cultural relics level. After liberation, many wealthy businessmen left, and the houses left behind were distributed to senior cadres of the party and government agencies. Therefore, most residents of Dongshan are from the families of senior cadres in the system, or the families of senior intellectuals, or the families of local prominent families (the so-called young masters of Dongshan). If you say you are from Dongshan, you will usually get a sentence: There must be a powerful person in your family. Since Dongshan District has been merged, "From Dongshan" now has a more natural sense of historical vicissitudes. Without the turmoil of the floating population in Yuexiu District, the old Dongshan people have a stronger sense of their pure Guangzhou identity.
It is not easy to blackmail people from Dongshan, after all, their bloodline is noble. However, no matter how noble your bloodline is, you have not been buried by history and have become part of Yuexiu District, right?
2 Liwan
Liwan is one of the beautiful legends of Guangzhou. When talking about Liwan, everyone will naturally think of delicious food, big houses and beautiful women. Different from the strong merger of Yuexiu Dongshan, the people of Liwan actually prefer to call the original area Xiguan, especially now that Liwan District has merged with Fangcun on the other side of Baietan. Calling "Xiguan" can maintain the last bit of blood dignity of old Guangzhou. Xiguan is home to a large number of merchants, and Shibafu is the starting point of the famous maritime trade route overseas. Therefore, the young ladies in Xiguan always have a sense of nobility, as if they go out with a few maids as housekeepers. The people of Liwan are mainly composed of the middle class of old Guangzhou, families of small traders, and people from the local literary and artistic circles.
It is not easy and unbearable to blackmail the residents of Xiguan. After all, Xiguan carries the DNA of Guangzhou’s commercial city. To a certain extent, Guangzhou is an international city and Xiguan is the root of this city.
If you really want to take a dark look, the "lonely and cold" people in Xiguan are indeed the stereotype of them - the image of a shrewd businessman comes to mind.
3 Haizhu
As an old Henan native, how could I focus on places like Haizhu Lake or Wetland Park. Haizhu District is like an isolated island. To the south of the Pearl River and to the north of Panyu, Haizhu District is a huge island. He started by saying, "I would rather have a bed in Dongshan than a room in Henan." This is the most powerful map bomb I have ever heard in Guangzhou. Henan residents are the most discriminated against in Laosi District, simply because Haizhu District was mostly populated by poor people in the old days. After liberation, some state-owned industrial parks were established. Therefore, the composition of the people in Haizhu is relatively complex, with most working-class families plus some intellectual families (mostly due to Sun Yat-sen University).
In fact, there are certain discriminatory divisions within Haizhu District. It is roughly bounded by Chigang, and to the west is the old Haizhu Industrial Zone and residential areas, which control the densest population in Haizhu District (state-owned enterprise dormitory residents District), the oldest business district (along Jiangnan Avenue), and the best basic education resources (the Sixth Middle School, the Fifth Middle School and the 97th Middle School are all in Xipian). To the east of Chigang, there used to be villages and bad land (of course, most areas in Haizhu used to be bad land), but now it has become the "new central axis of the city." However, if you say you are from the east part of Haizhu District, people will probably equate you with the countryside. However, from the current perspective, coming from the countryside in Guangzhou City seems to be a good thing (except Xian Village).
