Who is Xu Fu?

Xu Fu, a native of Qi during the Warring States Period, was one of the famous alchemists in history.

He was sent by the first emperor who was eager to find the elixir of life, but he led 3000 boys and girls and a group of craftsmen and soldiers to disappear into the vast sea, which has since become a permanent mystery in history books.

Of course, the film is not about Xu Fu in history.

In the film, Xu Fu only uses this name to express the same meaning of seeking eternal life.

Although Xu Fu, played by Park Bogan, can't be called human in a narrow sense, he is more like a "living animal", just like pigs and mice that often appear in the laboratory.

But in a broad sense, Xu Fu is a person, and he is just a successful case of cloning.

He is no different from ordinary people, with his own mood and mode of thinking and richer emotions.

However, he must be kept in the laboratory for 365 days a year, obey the instructions of human beings like an animal, and provide cells that can live forever.

Chui Fu has been living in the laboratory since he was born. He is pure and kind. He knows the reason why his mother created himself and the value of his existence is to draw blood for others. In addition to physical examination every day, I just read books and eat.

The best thing I have ever eaten in my life is the three cups of instant noodles that the agent gave him in the process of protecting him.

The happiest moment is putting on a suit of clothes and shoes.

He wore those shoes until the final battle before his death.

But as a person with independent thoughts, he is eager to have his own life and dreams, and also hopes that his life is meaningful and purposeful.

However, he grew up in a world where no one regarded him as an adult except his mother and agent, but regarded him as a pig from which human beings could get insulin.

In this way, being pushed around day after day, the only struggle is to force agents to take themselves to church to meet their "father" and their dead "self".

Finally, he chose to let the agent take himself back to the lab.

However, in order to protect him and let him have his own life, his mother chose to confront the president of the chaebol, but eventually she died.

Seeing his mother's death, he lost hope as a human being. For him, he has lost the value and significance of living, and he also knows that his own survival can only bring endless disasters, so he finally chose death to end all disputes.

02

Science fiction is not enough for philosophy.

In the film, Xu Fu, who has a special gene, can control the air pressure and achieve the effect of moving objects in space. Researchers have repeatedly mentioned that his stem cells can cure all human diseases.

But the latter only became a stunt, and the ability to treat diseases was not even reflected in a shot, while the immortal Xu Fu needed to inject inhibitory drugs every day to survive.

Such "high-risk groups" are of course threatened by villains.

American forces believe that the eternal life brought by Xu Fu's technology will lead to the extinction of mankind, so they want to destroy Xu Fu.

South Korean intelligence agencies first jointly developed Xu Fu with the chaebol, but were coerced by the United States to rebel and decided to kill Xu Fu. The agent played by Kong You was originally a member of the Intelligence Agency.

The image of a two-faced government is really an old routine in Korean movies, and it is by no means the worst time to be hacked.

The chaebol, the last third party force, is the main force to develop Chui Fu, who will live for a long time, so he is extremely eager to live forever. This eternal question about life and death is also the core contradiction of the film.

It's quite confusing to see here. The action science fiction "Xu Fu" seems to have abandoned the scene of genre films and sublimated into philosophical thinking.

As expected, this grand topic can't be brought back.

Min Jixian, played by Kong You, watched the CIA kill his former colleague for fear of death.

And because Xu Fu can treat his malignant tumor, he chose to protect him.

This represents the fear of death.

The president of the chaebol developed Xu Fu to live forever, while the scientist Lin wanted to revive his dead son, and then joined the research and contributed his DNA.

The above reflects people's desire for life.

Death was originally an absolute equality, but the technology of immortality broke this balance.

American forces and anti-water South Korean intelligence agencies suggest that if people lose their lives, they will only have greed and desire and eventually go to destruction.

Do they represent kindness and justice? I don't think so.

It is precisely because the technology of eternal life is not in their hands that there is a change in stealing Xu Fu before deciding to kill him in the movie.

At the end of the film, Xu Fu chose to sacrifice himself to save others, and also told everyone the value of death.

Death is a part of life. Without death, there is no hope of struggle.

The philosophical discussion of life and death in Xu Fu only stays at the level of lines, and the design of the whole plot is not better integrated into expression. We will feel the escalating brotherhood between Min Jixian and Xu Fu, but we have never seen more profound content.

On the other hand, the expression of bionic human nature in blade runner forty years ago is really far from perfect.

03

Is it worth seeing?

As an action movie, Xu Fu's sci-fi background setting has become dispensable.

The sci-fi elements in the film stay on the surface.

Things that have rotted in the street for a long time can't meet the needs of science fiction lovers.

The surface lines are not ripe again.

Despite the high box office, the word-of-mouth is not satisfactory.

Douban score has been reduced to 6. 1.

If there is anything to watch in the movie, the two male gods are still very good.

Wenxi's plot also relies on the online acting skills of Liu Kong and Park Baogen, giving the audience a certain sense of substitution.

As a national treasure actor of the new generation, Kong You has participated in many high-scoring films and contributed many classic screen images, but his role in Chuifu really doesn't have much room to play.

Park Baogen even participated in the highest score of Korean drama "Please Answer 1988" and became a national idol.

Li Yongzhou, the director of the film, was the deputy director of Memories of Murder and had rich experience.

At the same time, "Xu Fu" is also the first synchronized film in Korea, and its screening form is of epoch-making significance in Korea.

Korean films such as Victory, Hunting Time and Night in Paradise have also skipped cinemas and directly entered Netflix, but it is the first time that cinemas are synchronized with OTT TV.

All in all, the much-anticipated Xu Fu is not satisfactory, but for the sake of the two male gods, fans are still worth seeing!

Although "Chuifu" is the first Korean action science fiction movie about immortality, such content is very common in European and American movies, and the setting of human cloning is a story that many Hollywood blockbusters have already filmed.

Before the movie, I had great expectations and fantasies about Xu Fu. I thought this movie would be a famous sci-fi masterpiece in the history of Korean movies, but disappointment was accompanied by expectation.
