Speaking of Suzhou Confucian Temple, it is inseparable from Fan Zhongyan. Fan Zhongyan is from Suzhou. There are still many historical sites and place names related to the Fan family. For example, Fan Zhongyan Memorial Hall was built on Tianping Mountain, a maple scenic spot outside Suzhou. This is because in the Song Dynasty, because of Fan Zhongyan's outstanding achievements, the emperor named him Tianping Mountain. Later, after his family died, he was buried on Tianping Mountain.

In the ancient city of Suzhou, there is an alley called Fanzhuangqian. Yizhuang founded by Fan Zhongyan is here, so it is called Fan Zhuangqian. There is a middle school in the alley called Fan Jing Middle School, which means to admire Fan Zhongyan.

The Suzhou Confucian Temple to be mentioned now was also built by Fan Zhongyan. Fan Zhongyan is the magistrate of Suzhou. In order to benefit his hometown, he decided to run an official school, and the address was chosen in the private house where he was going to build a new house. Because it is said that this place has good feng shui, Fan Zhongyan thinks that such good feng shui should be occupied by Suzhou people, not his own home. If a school is established here, education in his hometown will surely flourish. So he built an official school with the integration of temple and learning (that is, the integration of Confucius temple and official learning). Suzhou Fu Xue is famous for its well-managed schools. Since then, after large-scale construction, the Fu Xue Confucian Temple in the Ming and Qing Dynasties has a large scale, occupying the reputation of being the first university in the south of the Yangtze River.

Today, the official credit of the integration of temple and learning is divided into two parts, one is Suzhou Middle School, the most famous school in Suzhou, and the other is today's Confucian Temple.

On the east and west sides of the Confucian Temple, there are ancient ginkgo trees over 600 years old, which stand tall in the sun.
