Notes on Tao Yuanming's

Text/Shu Kai

? Original poem

I wanted to live in Nancun yesterday, not for the house. I'm glad to hear more people and enjoy the morning and evening.

I have been pregnant with this for several years, and today I am our service. Why is it wide? Bring enough things to cover the mattress.

Neighboring songs come from time to time, and the word resistance is a thing of the past. Appreciation of strange pens.

I wanted to move to Nancun before, but I didn't take advantage of the bad luck of the house.

I heard that there are many sincere people who want to be with them.

I have been longing for it for years, but now I have to move my wish.

Why should a humble residence be spacious, as long as it can cover a bed mat?

Neighbors often visit and talk about ancient times;

Wonderful articles are analyzed together with appreciation and problems.

Meng Erdong's Notes on Tao Yuanming's Works, p72.

I wanted to live in Nancun before, not to choose a good house. I heard that the pure tonic, music and companionship here * * * sooner or later.

I've been thinking about this for a long time and moved to Nancun today. Why should a humble room be spacious? It is enough to make a wish to build a bed.

Neighbors often communicate with each other and speak frankly about the past. Wonderful articles are the same as appreciating and analyzing difficult problems.

Selected Comments on Tao Yuanming's Poems by Xie Xianjun/Wang Xunmin, p59.

I had the idea of moving to Nancun a long time ago, not because the feng shui here is so prosperous.

It is said that people in Nancun are simple-minded, and I am willing to be neighbors with such people.

With the desire of these years, today I realized my original intention and finally moved into a new place.

A humble house does not need to be spacious. It is satisfactory to have my place to live.

Friendly neighbors often come and go, and have no scruples about talking about the past.

There are good articles for everyone to enjoy and analyze in detail when encountering difficulties.

Meng Erdong's Notes on Tao Yuanming's Works, p72.

When Tao Yuanming was about forty-one, he lived in Xunyang and went to Beijing from his hometown. In June (408), the poet's residence in Beijing caught fire and his house was burned down. Two years later, in September of the sixth year of Yixi (4 10), he moved to Nancun, realizing his long-cherished wish. These two poems are his heartfelt works after moving this time. The poet is 46 years old. This poem describes the reasons for moving to Nancun and the fun after moving. This poem enthusiastically praised the "simple" people in Nancun, showing the elegant and pure taste of like-minded. Poets and these simple "simple-hearted" people live together day and night, freely, talk about the past, comment on articles, have harmonious feelings and unlimited joy.

Guo Weisen/Bao Jingcheng, Complete Translation of Tao Yuanming's Collected Works, p68.

These two poems were written in the sixth year of Yi Xi (AD 4 10), and Yuanming was 46 years old. The migration was from Yuantianju to Nancun (for the reason why Yuan and Ming lived in Nancun all their lives, please refer to the six-year note of Yixi in Chronicle). These two poems can be compared with Returning to the Garden. The poem "Returning" comprehensively describes the scene after returning to the field, while "Moving" focuses on rural communication. Because it is based on labor, friendship is very frank and sincere, full of warmth and joy. Poets praise nature, so they also praise the relationship between people in nature. In this way, I once again strengthened my belief that I would go back to the fields and work hard. Within ten steps, nothing grows. The poet found his bosom friend in the countryside. Tao Yuanming is not a proud person, but a humble and studious person who is willing to be friends with literature. These two poems, because of their wonderful descriptions of noble interests and the images of learning from each other's strong points, have become the proverbs of later intellectuals who make friends by writing.

Migration * * * two songs. In June (408), the fourth year of Jin 'an Yixi, Tao Yuanming's former residence suffered a fire. Two years later, Yi Xi moved to Nancun in the sixth year (4 10). These two poems were written shortly after he moved into his new house, when he was 46 years old. Both poems are about his happy life of friendly communication with his neighbors after moving. This poem is about moving to Nancun and living in harmony and happiness with like-minded neighbors.

Zhang Yan's Shi Tao Jin Shuo, p72.

Reading this poem makes people shine at the moment and can't help but be impressed by the poet's personality! As a literate man who has the ability and level to work hard in the officialdom and enjoy wealth and splendor, he is willing to give up, voluntarily return to the countryside, go to the farmland, work tirelessly and live a hard life. In the eyes of ordinary people, he is not a big fool, but also a "250", and foul language such as "water in his head" and "lack of roots" swept through like a rainstorm. In fact, the bird doesn't know Dapeng's ambition to fly! Mediocrity is mediocrity after all; A philosopher is a philosopher after all. Philosophers and mediocrities, like mountains and ravines, are far apart.

The country is dim and dark, philosophers stay away, choose seclusion, and naturally return to their places. No blame. Ancient and modern! Besides, the poet Tao Gong is not a real hermit. Mr. Lu Xun's comments are comprehensive and accurate. (Please refer to Lu Xun's Collection of Relationships between Wei and Jin Manners and Literature, Medicine and Wine, etc.). It can also be seen from this poem that Tao Gong is not a "narcissistic" and unattainable person, but a gentleman who likes to make friends, likes learning, is natural and graceful, and is modest and cautious. He knows that "within ten steps, the grass will flourish" and how happy it is to be friends with literature! It is precisely because of his noble character and taste that he left an almost household famous saying: "Appreciate strange writing and analyze doubtful points." These two sentences are very profound and enlightening. We can savor them carefully and inspire Guang Mao. As far as the whole poem is concerned, this poem is like a rich mine with a lot of gold, which is worth digging deep!

Tang Manxian's Notes on Selected Poems of Tao Yuanming, p32

The author's hometown is Chaisang County, Xunyang County (the old Chaisang County is now located in Jinglin Street, Jiujiang County, Jiangxi Province, and the author's former residence is in Luziban near Jinglin Street). At the age of 4/Kloc-0, he moved from Chaisang to Shangjing (now west of Xing Zi County, Jiangxi Province). In June of the fourth year of Jin 'an (408), Yi Shangjing caught fire and the house was burned down. So, after September (4 10), he moved from Shangjing to Nancun, a suburb of Xunyang City (now Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province). At this time, the author was forty-six years old. These two poems were written shortly after moving to Nancun. The first song is about the reason for moving to Nancun. He chose his residence, not considering the quality of the house, but focusing on choosing good neighbors. Nancun's neighbors are simple-hearted, and poets get along with them day and night, talking about the past and commenting on articles, which is very harmonious and pleasant.

Comment on Yang's annotation translation of Tao Yuanming, p45.

It's really fascinating to hear Tao Yuanming talk about moving in a indifferent tone. Choosing Bujialin instead of auspicious building itself illustrates the reality of Tao Yuanming, but how idealistic it is! The simple words "Listen more, care more about people and enjoy the morning and evening" express the love for simple life. "Why are we so wide? Bring enough things to cover the mattress. Neighboring songs come from time to time, and the word resistance has passed. " The reduction of material desire is in exchange for the relaxation of spiritual space. "Wen Qi * * appreciate. Doubt and analysis ",aesthetic happiness and friendship are integrated, and the pleasure of seeking knowledge and the joy of communication shine." "This situation is really a good life. What he pursues is not the luxury of material space, but the simplicity of spiritual space. The nicknames of immigrants are "housewarming" and "moving from valley to tree". His trees are bathed in simple rural customs and grow in the spiritual world.

Appreciation of Tao Yuanming's Masterpieces by Liang Hou, p75.

Poetry is a work full of emotion; Emotional people. Tao Yuanming's immigration poems are touching and express his good feelings of being willing to associate with his neighbors. The first eight sentences of the poem are about the poet's feelings of seeking friends, and the last four sentences are about the pleasure of associating with friends.

When we read Tao Yuanming's poem Migration, we will naturally think of the "logging" in the Book of Songs: "Logging Ding Ding, birds singing. Transfer from the valley to the tree. It screamed and asked for a friendly voice. " In the silent forest, the sound of logging came from a distance. At this time, a bird "croaked" and flew from the deep valley to the tree. Birds are looking for new bird friends with their own "melody" sounds. The rhyme of Tao Yuanming's poem Migration is the same as logging. The latter is a bird seeking its friendly voice, while the former is Tao Yuanming seeking its friendly voice. After the poet's old house caught fire, it took more than two years to get his new house in Nancun. Now, the poet is moving to Nancun. How happy he should be! "From the valley to the tree", he will naturally be moved by "the joy of moving". He can take this joy of moving as the theme, but the poet does not focus on the move itself, not the joy of moving, but the mood of seeking friends and the pleasure of getting friends.

The mood of seeking friends is sincere, and the poet shows it step by step. The ancients were superstitious and planned to move first to see if it was good or bad. Only when the homestead is auspicious will they move, but when the homestead is dangerous, they will not move. Did Tao Yuanming move from Shangjing to Nancun because of good feng shui? Of course not: "I used to want to live in Nancun, not for Butch's house". There is a saying in Zuo Gong's Three Years: "It's not a house, it's a neighbor." In other words, the choice of floating population is not the quality of homestead, but the quality of neighborhood. Tao Yuanming secretly used the words of the ancients to express his emphasis on choosing a neighbor to live in. "Choosing neighbors" is more important than "choosing neighbors". The first two sentences of this poem express the poet's feelings of seeking friends. "A man who knows his heart very well will be happy in the morning and evening", which is a supplement to the previous two sentences and clearly explains the real reason for moving. "Amateur" refers to a kind-hearted and pure-hearted person, referring to He Yin. These simple-minded people attract Tao Yuanming, and he is willing to be with simple-minded people. It is not a temporary idea to yearn for a simple neighbor. The poet "has been pregnant with this for several years", but he failed to do so for a long time. Now I got what I wanted. "I'm leaving today." Being with friends gives the poet emotional satisfaction. As long as there are good neighbors and friends, it doesn't matter how poor other material conditions are. It doesn't matter if the house is smaller, as long as it can put a mattress. The poet attaches importance to friendship and shows noble sentiments, which makes his works have an extraordinary style.

The poet used more pen and ink to write his feelings of choosing neighbors and seeking friends, and also wrote the fun of getting along with friends after he got them. Most of the friends mentioned here are scholars, and their communication has the characteristics of scholars. The content of the conversation is not "Sang Ma", but "poetry". These are all reflected in the works. The simple sentence "neighbors come from time to time" has friendship in it. Only close neighbors will come from time to time. The poet gently pointed out the fact that he came from time to time, not to mention how deep their friendship was, but this friendship could not be expressed in words. The "Neighborhood Song" came, and everyone talked freely and told the past. Speak loudly describes the characteristics of good friends' conversation. They not only "talk loudly" about the past, but also appreciate poetry, which has a kind of fun in spiritual life. When they encounter strange words, they enjoy them together. If in doubt, they will discuss it together. "Appreciating strange writing and analyzing doubts" is a good sentence in Tao's poems, which is both interesting and reasonable and has always been praised by people. It is common for scholars to appreciate strange articles and solve doubts and doubts. Many people have experienced it without paying attention and expressing it. Tao Yuanming paid attention to it, expressed it and formed a wonderful poem. Tao Yuanming's poems did not fall from the sky, but were good at absorbing them from daily life.

The poet wrote about his pleasure in meeting his friends, but did not make empty comments. He selectively narrated several things, such as the coming of neighboring songs, the absence of speaking loudly, enjoying strange writing and analyzing doubts. Poets speak with facts and express their feelings with facts, which makes people feel simple and moving. Jiang Xun commented: "This is indeed a spoken word, but it is a wonderful word. Extremely plain and gorgeous "(see Tao Yuanming's poems). Wu Hanfen, a poet, takes two migration poems as examples to illustrate that Tao's poems are "bland and tasteless, harmonious but not refined, easy to escape without revealing, which makes people feast". He also pointed out: "Migration II" is not strange when people first read it, but the taste gradually emerges when they recite it. Later generations have commented on the present art, saying: "Gorgeous is extremely dull, dull is extremely waves", and Shi Tao is enough "(see Volume 8 of Reading Fun).

Review (page 98)

Juck Zhang and others' Three Poems by Cao, Volume II: Emphasis is placed on closeness, which makes the Shang Dynasty truly superior, both wide and narrow, and it is unnecessary to count them. Poetry.

Qiu Jiasui's Poems on the Pottery in Dongshan Cottage Volume II: I started before I moved. I remember my previous thoughts. Under "Neighboring songs come from time to time", it is the meaning of "simple-hearted people" and "counting the days". Confucius said that you can know your benevolence by choosing them, and Tao Gong has something to say.

Wen Ru can be compiled into the second volume of Shi Tao Hui Ping: it is hard for a simple-hearted person to get it, but the word "smell" is wonderful or the word "room" is boring. The word "appreciation" is also wonderful, but it is not enough to appreciate strange writing; Appreciate it and reward it, and you will learn a lot from it.
