Ukraine is located in Eastern Europe, covering an area of 603,700 square kilometers (accounting for 2.7% of the former Soviet Union), with a length of 1.300 kilometers from east to west and 900 kilometers from north to south. It borders the Azov Sea and the Black Sea in the south, Russia in the northeast, Belarus in the north, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary in the west, Moldova and Romania in the south.
Most of Ukraine belongs to the Eastern European Plain, with the highest peak being Mount Gaubil (206 1 m above sea level) in the western Carpathian Mountains, and the longest river being the Dnieper River. The climate belongs to temperate continental climate, and the south bank of Crimea is subtropical climate.
