What does it mean to be buried secretly in the countryside?

Stealing burial in rural areas means that if the body is not well preserved in summer, it will be buried in advance, and then a condolence and memorial ceremony will be held, which is called "stealing burial" locally.

In Guanzhong and northern Shaanxi, old people usually stay at home for five to seven days from death to burial. People habitually think that "it is safest to bury people when they are dead". If the body is left at home for a long time, it will make people feel "uneasy", but it will make children and grandchildren look unfilial, so the locals will bury it on the third day after death.

Funeral custom in rural areas

Another bad habit is to "bury" the coffin temporarily. In some wealthy families with conditions, coffins are often thick and tightly closed. In order to avoid the evil spirits in Sa Ciki in 2008, coffins were often left at home for several years, and some were left in the wild. The coffin is covered with a layer of Hu Ji, covered with mud paste, and not buried for many years, commonly known as "single grave" or "send grave"

This phenomenon is very common in northern Shaanxi. For example, in Qingjian, Wubao and other counties, the joint burial of husband and wife is very popular among the people, and people attach great importance to the joint burial of the deceased, just like the marriage of the living. According to local customs, if one spouse dies first and the other is still alive, the deceased can't be buried formally, but can only be buried temporarily or left out in the cold, and then buried after the death of both husband and wife. Those who have more than one wife, or those who have more than one wife in a row, will not be buried together until they are all dead.
