The architectural style of the building belongs to the Renaissance style, with a three-stage composition and an elegant bell tower in the middle. The bell tower is surrounded by clocks with a diameter of 4 meters. The punctual bells have always formed a part of Wuhan's urban life. The granite exterior wall is solid and spectacular. The east, west and north facades all have granite colonnades, using Corinthian columns. The eight stone columns on the north side are 1.5 meters in diameter. Jianghanguan Building is a model building of classical revival style in Wuhan. The building is a reinforced concrete structure with 4 floors in the main building and a semi-basement on the ground floor. The bell tower also has 4 floors, with the top 83.8 meters above the ground. At that time, it was the second tallest building in the three towns of Wuhan.
The building uses reinforced concrete raft foundation. In the past, most of the larger buildings in Wuhan used stone foundations. Since cement was introduced to Wuhan at the end of the 19th century, reinforced concrete was also introduced to gradually replace the stone foundations. The exterior walls are made of granite, and the east, west and north sides of the building are equipped with granite columns and decorated with deformed classical "Corinthian" capitals. These granites are all produced in Hunan. They are engraved with pattern lines and are strong and spectacular. Especially the eight pillars on the north side facing the concession area are about 10 meters high and 1.5 meters in diameter. It takes two people to hold them together. When people come to it, they can feel the majesty and solemnity of the 28 steps leading to the door and the columns standing side by side. The facade design of the building uses a three-stage composition technique, using the bell tower to highlight the central entrance, showing the classicism style; the treatment of the walls, pediments, window lintels and entrance semicircular arches shows the typical architectural style of the Western Renaissance. At the back of the building, you can see that it is open on the south side, giving the building a triple courtyard layout. This may be because the design took into account the connection between this area and the old urban area, so that the design can better show harmony with the surrounding area.
This building has inner corridors from the second to fourth floors. Hollow black iron railings connect the granite corridor columns. The contrast between hardness and softness, the integration of thick and thin, can be said to be uncanny workmanship.
The bell tower of Jianghanguan is 20 meters high and has 4 floors. The bottom floor is the big clock pendulum room, the second floor is the big clock parts room, the third floor is the big clock hour hand room, and the upper floor is composed of 7 scales. sound room. There is a steel ladder inside the bell tower, which can be climbed directly to the top floor; the outer wall of the bell tower is embedded with huge clock faces on all sides, with a diameter of more than 3 meters and a needle length of 1.7 meters. On a clear day, it can be seen ten miles away. There is also a wind direction indicator on the bell tower, with a gilt British sailing ship in the middle. The entire design style is a unique British form, elegant and spectacular.
