Siheyuan Feng Shui

The most important thing in the Feng Shui of courtyards in Beijing is the door. It is said that a door will bring good fortune. The courtyard door is an important symbol that separates the interior and exterior spaces. The three essential elements of a Yangzhai are: "door, main room, and stove" and the six things: "door, road, stove, well, pit, and toilet." The door is the first element. Feng shui experts believe: "If the main door is auspicious, then the whole house will be auspicious. If the general door is auspicious, then the whole house will be auspicious. If the door of the house is auspicious, then the whole house will be auspicious." The so-called "gate" is also the main door outside the joint house. Yi'an In the four auspicious directions of one's destiny, one must not settle on the four inauspicious directions of one's destiny. It is also necessary to have the auspicious direction of the dragon sitting on the mountain to open the gate. It is also advisable to welcome the auspicious direction of water to establish the gate. Prepare". According to the theory of the "Eight Houses in Younian", the Yangzhai can be divided into nine palaces and calibrated according to the orientation using the Eight Diagrams of the day after tomorrow. Among them, the four directions of anger, Yannian, Tianyi (medicine), and Fu are auspicious directions, which are conducive to the placement of the gate; at the same time, if it can be matched with the auspicious directions of dragon coming from the mountains or water coming from the river, the three auspicious directions will be ready to build the gate. Feng Shui talks about Qi, and the house door is the entrance for Qi, so how to set up and handle the door is very important. In Feng Shui, it is auspicious to have a bright hall (i.e. an empty space) in front of the door, and opening the middle door is the first choice. If there is no bright hall in front, it is auspicious to open the left door. The left direction is the Qinglong position, and the Qinglong is auspicious. The one on the right belongs to the white tiger, and the white tiger is generally considered inferior.

The gates of Beijing courtyards are all in the southeast corner (front left corner), called Qinglong Gate. Feng Shui calls this layout Kanzhai Xunmen, which is the most auspicious. The back wall is the most taboo in Feng Shui, and it is not advisable to open the middle door because it may discourage you. Therefore, none of the back doors of Beijing courtyards open in the middle of the back wall. Feng shui is a spiritual control force and a psychological comfort force. Due to the deterrent effect of patriarchal clan and Feng Shui, people are afraid of an external force. "Book of Changes": "The sage established his teachings with Shinto, and the world obeyed him." "Book of Rites": "Hundreds of people are in fear, and all the people are in submission." I was afraid, so I believed. People who live in courtyard houses that have been surveyed by Feng Shui will be psychologically satisfied and at ease. If Feng Shui is violated, people will feel uneasy.

In addition, there are settings in the courtyard to resolve external evil spirits. "Ten Books on Yangzhai" describes the unlucky things in the house: "There are many house rules, and none of them can be ignored. Houses in the house, such as turtle heads, wild goose tails, and filial piety, etc., will be prone to disasters if they are violated." B31 means inside the house. If the house has the shape of "glans head" or "goose tail", bad disaster will come. From an aesthetic point of view, shapes such as "glans head" and "goose tail" lack squareness, so experts can't help but judge them as unlucky. If the house owner's life hexagram and the house hexagram in Feng Shui are not in agreement or the location of the courtyard is not ideal, use the entrance hall or screen wall or screen to eliminate evil spirits. The space between a gate of a courtyard is called a porch, and the greatest feng shui function of the porch is to resolve the "evil energy" from the street that rushes straight toward the gate. For example, if the door faces a road or a corner, it is considered unfavorable. Setting up a porch can change the direction of "external air" and seek good luck and avoid bad luck. At the same time, the entrance also plays the role of covering and beautifying the environment.

The city of Beijing was planned by designers according to the "Rites of Zhou". The palace city, central axis, lanes and alleys were all planned strictly and in accordance with the law. But at the same time, it is also controlled by the thoughts of the "Book of Changes" and contains a lot of Feng Shui factors. The courtyard house was designed under the control of the feudal hierarchy and Feng Shui factors. In real life, "Zhou Li" and "Zhou Yi" interpenetrate and coexist at the same time.
