Imperial cemeteries in the Tang Dynasty all face south, with high terrain in the north and low terrain in the south, north-south axis and symmetrical layout in the east and west. There are three steps between the entrance, Shinto, Rutai and Quetai in the trillion domain, which seems to be a sign of the three Taishan Mountains in geomantic omen. The inner city where the mausoleum is located faces north, commanding, surrounded by rammed inner and outer walls. There are gates on all sides of the inner city. Because the mountain is a mausoleum, the inner city is an irregular polygon, and the south, east and west gates mostly face Gong Xuan, and the north gate is mostly built because of the terrain, which is not straight. For those who accumulate soil for the mausoleum, the inner city is mostly square, and the four doors are facing the mausoleum.
The characteristics of the tombs in the Tang Dynasty are also reflected in many large-scale exquisite stone carvings arranged outside the four gates of the tombs and on both sides of Shinto. There are stone carvings in the tombs of the emperors in the Tang Dynasty, which are found in all tombs, including round carvings, relief carvings and line carvings.
The characteristics of the Imperial Mausoleum in the Tang Dynasty are also reflected in the vast mausoleum area, the huge scale of tombs, and many exquisite funerary objects, mainly the figurines and beasts, tomb murals and stone line depictions in the tombs of Sancai Town in the Tang Dynasty.
After the death of Emperor gaozu Li Yuan, Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong, made regulations on the construction of his father's tomb, and at the same time, he inherited the system of burying the mausoleum of Emperor after the death of generals in Han Dynasty, and formulated the system of secretly burying the mausoleum of Emperor with heroes. Most of the tombs buried with the emperor in the Tang Dynasty were in the early Tang Dynasty, followed by the prosperous Tang Dynasty, few in the middle Tang Dynasty and basically disappeared in the late Tang Dynasty.
