Portrait of the king
Wang inherited the painting style of Dong Qichang and his grandfather Wang Shimin. At that time, Wang was very popular in officialdom, so Wang's landscape paintings had a deep influence on later generations. One of the main reasons for the widespread influence is the large number of disciples, among which Wang Jingming, Jin Yongxi and others are the most famous. At that time, Wang also started a painting school called "Painting School". At that time, he and grandpa, Wang Jian and Wang Yi were called the four great kings, and later he and Yun were called the six great families of the Qing Dynasty.
After Wang Gaozhong entered the Jinshi, because he was keen on painting, he was called to worship the Imperial Palace, mainly responsible for compiling Pei Wenzhai's calligraphy and painting spectrum, and occasionally doing the work of identifying the authenticity of calligraphy and painting. Wang's paintings were mainly taught by Wang Shimin and Wang Jianjiao, and their painting style was basically the same as theirs, which was the way of survival in ancient times. Among them, Wang likes copying Huang best, which is also reflected in his creation.
Because Wang was appreciated by the emperor, many people learned his painting style and gradually formed this style. Lou Dongpai belonged to the orthodox school at that time and had the greatest influence on later generations. Most of Lou Dongpai's works only copy ancient times, so the development of landscape painting in Qing Dynasty is not as good as before, which is a very important reason.
Wang's works
People have different views on Wang. Because Wang was good at living in ancient times, many painters talked about his works, which was unacceptable. Wang Yisheng is devoted to antiques. I studied painting with my grandfather Wang Shimin in my early years, that is, I imitated his works. His landscape paintings come directly from his grandfather, but the taste of pen and ink is heavier than his grandfather's.
Wang's works
Although Wang's early works are excellent, they are ignored because of ignorance of ancient times and lack of true feelings. For example, "Imitation of Nine Mountains and Waters" was written by Wang when he was thirty years old. This painting is a copy of Huang's works, with simple and elegant style, which is different from Huang's works.
It was not until Wang Zhongnian that he gradually jumped out of the way of imitating ancient times and began to have his own style. For example, the Fuchun Mountain map, the whole picture flowing, beautiful ink. All the scenes of sky, mountains and water are depicted. This painting can be said to be a landscape painting of Wang Zhongnian.
In Wang's later years, he studied under Wang Jian, the four great painters, and his painting style gradually became refined. For example, Wang's 70-year-old Map of Nanshan has a unique brushwork and a long ancient rhyme. The colors are also bright and mottled, and the whole picture gives people a feeling of maturity and sophistication.
During the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, the western painters represented by Chen Duxiu and Xu Beihong totally denied the painting style of Wang and other four kings, which led to the extremely low auction price of Wang's works. Works were created from 1988 to 1990. It was not until the 20th century (2 1) that Wang's market price works began to rise.
