I. Lijiang, Yunnan
Lijiang, located at the junction of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in the northwest of Yunnan Province, is a prefecture-level city in Yunnan Province. During the Three Kingdoms period, Lijiang was sparsely populated and was even considered a barren land. During the Southern Dynasties, Naxi people began to move to Lijiang and settled here. Old Town of Lijiang has a history of nearly 900 years since the Southern Song Dynasty.
Today, Old Town of Lijiang has condensed the essence of Naxi culture and completely preserved the historical features formed since the Song and Yuan Dynasties. It is also a rare well-preserved ancient city of ethnic minorities in China. Today's Lijiang attracts a large number of tourists from home and abroad every year because of its unique and long history and distinctive cultural and natural landscape.
Second, the ancient city of Pingyao, Shanxi Province
Pingyao Ancient City, located in Pingyao County, central Shanxi Province, was founded in the Western Zhou Dynasty and has a history of nearly 3,000 years. After the establishment of the Ming dynasty, in order to resist foreign enemies, the construction of city walls began. After the establishment of the Qing Dynasty, the walls of Pingyao ancient city were reinforced many times, making the city more spectacular. Pingyao Ancient City is an outstanding representative of Ming and Qing Dynasties, which shows an extremely complete picture of the cultural, social, economic and religious development of the Han nationality. In 2009, it was rated as the most complete ancient county town in China by world record association, which showed its charm as an ancient city.
Third, Shexian County, Anhui Province
Shexian County, located at the southernmost tip of Anhui Province, is the seat of ancient Huizhou and the birthplace of ancient famous businessmen. According to research, Shexian has traces of human activities in the Paleolithic Age, and a long history will inevitably leave a long culture. Huizhou culture and Peking Opera, the quintessence of Chinese culture, both originated in Shexian County, and the inkstone in Four Treasures of the Study was mainly produced in Shexian County.
Fourth, Langzhong, Sichuan
As early as the Zhou Dynasty, Langzhong belonged to Ba, and Langzhong County was established during the period of Qin Wanghui. Since then, Langzhong has never changed his name. Zhang Fei, a famous soldier of the Three Kingdoms, guarded Langzhong for more than seven years. After his head was cut off by his men, his body was buried in Langzhong. Langzhong was the capital of Sichuan in 17 and the political, economic, military and cultural center of northern Sichuan.
Langzhong Ancient City is a city built in full accordance with the astronomical geomantic theory of the Tang Dynasty, which embodies the ancient people's idea of "harmony between man and nature". Known as the ancient city of Feng Shui, it has the reputation of "Langzhong Garden Wonderland, Langzhong is a rare place on earth" and is also the hometown of China Spring Festival culture.
These four ancient cities, relatively well preserved, are also a huge historical and cultural wealth left by the ancients. The author believes that under the protection of "experts", these four ancient cities can still be well preserved, so that future generations can also have the opportunity to appreciate the masterpieces of the ancients.
