Lilacs are divided into male cloves and female cloves. People often call the unopened flower buds "male lilacs" and the mature fruits "female lilacs". Their usage and dosage are basically the same.
The buds and fruits of cloves are both spices and can be used as medicine. This is also an important difference between male and female cloves. The so-called male lilac refers to the tubular buds of the lilac flower. The buds are slightly stick-shaped, 1-2cm long, with 4 triangular sepals at the top, separated in a cross shape. The overall color is reddish brown to dark brown. They are picked and dried. , smells fragrant. Lilac buds, picked and dried at this time, become male lilacs and female lilacs are actually the fruits of the lilac flower, specifically, they should be immature fruits. Called nearly mature fruit, the dried fruit is oval or oval in shape, about 2 to 3 cm long and 0.6 to 1 cm in diameter. The appearance is brown, or with earthy red powder, rough, with many fine wrinkles, and the upper end of the calyx has 4 lobes.
Female cloves are often used when stewing meat.
The immature fruits are picked and dried to become female cloves.
Male cloves are usually added to the medicinal wine used for fishing because the smell of male cloves is stronger. In Chinese medicine, it is also believed that the medicinal value of male cloves is higher than that of female cloves. After brewing cloves with high-strength white wine, the color of the wine will turn purple. When brewing, due to the strong smell of cloves, the quantity is generally not kept in small quantities. I brewed two bottles of clove wine respectively, adding 5-6 cloves to one bottle and about 10 grams of cloves to one bottle. You can see to the obvious difference.
