Zhan Tianyou's deeds and brief introduction

Zhan Tianyou (1861-1919), a native of Nanhai County, Guangdong Province, was originally from Wuyuan County, Anhui Province (now Jiangxi Province). From 65438 to 0872, Zhan Tianyou went to Hongkong to apply for the first batch of preschool classes for children in China, and went to the United States to study in the same year. 1878 was admitted to the Civil Engineering Department of Yale University Institute of Technology to study road engineering.

1888 was hired as a road construction engineer of Tangjin Railway and started to engage in railway construction. Later, he worked in more than ten railways such as Guannei, Pingyi, Xinyi, Chaoshan, Daoqing, Zhangjing, Luotong, Jinpu, Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo, Shanghai-Nanjing, Chuanhan, Yuehan and Hanyue-Chuan. 1in the spring of 903, the first Xinyi railway designed and built by China people was completed, and the Qing government awarded Zhan Tianyou the title of platform.

From 1905 to 1909, he designed and presided over the construction of China's first trunk railway-Jing-Zhang Railway. The construction of Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway is entirely undertaken by China. It was opened to traffic two years ahead of schedule, and the cost of road construction was only two-seventh of that estimated by foreigners.

Zhan Tianyou devoted himself to his duties and loved his motherland all his life. He opposed the Qing government's sale of road rights. Oppose foreign invaders to discriminate against China engineers. He enthusiastically supported the road protection movement. He not only actively introduced foreign science and technology, but also firmly believed in the creativity of our people. He called on China engineers to "learn what they have learned and know what they know, so that the country will not be invaded by foreign countries and stand on its own feet on the earth."

In his hometown, he has made many achievements for the people of Guangdong. He drew the situation along the coast of Guangdong, which is the first sea chart in China; He carefully inspected the railway from Chaozhou to Shantou; He actively led the construction of the Guangdong-Han railway from Guangzhou to Shaoguan; 19 14 was elected as the president of Hankou disaster relief association for floods in eastern Guangdong, and made many donations to floods in eastern Guangdong, Guangdong Hospital in China and Guangdong Public School.

Zhan Tianyou devoted his life to the railway industry in China. Zhou Enlai praised him as "the glory of the people of China". Now, the statue of Zhan Tianyou and the tomb of Zhan Tianyou have been rebuilt at Qinglongqiao Station of Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway, and the Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall has been built next to Badaling Ancient Great Wall.

After Zhan Tianyou's death, public sacrifices were held in Beijing, Hankou, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Tianjin, and the Far East Railway Conference paid tribute. More than 500 people, including the China Institution of Engineers headed by Mou, the Beijing-Suiyuan Railway Association headed by Ding Shiyuan, and the Hunan-Hubei Railway Engineering Bureau of Hanyuechuan Railway headed by Yan Deqing, signed a letter to present Zhan Tianyou's life story, saying that "it is a pity to take advantage of peerless glory".
