In 1646, Hauge was appointed as General Jingyuan, and led Luo Luohun, Beilenikan, King of Yanxi County, Wu Sangui, King of Pingxi, and others to start the Western Expedition. The army marched to Shaanxi. At that time, the old generals of the Ming Dynasty, Sun Shoufa, Wang Guangen, Wu Dading, He Zhen and others, raised troops in Xing'an and Hanzhong areas. Later, they became more powerful and actually captured Xi'an.
Hauge ordered the governors Meng Qiaofang and Zhang Jingluohui to attack Xi'an, and he led the main force to attack Hanzhong and Xing'an. Jiang Dennglei, Shi Guoxi, Wang Kecheng, and Zhou Kede surrendered one after another, and Shaanxi was pacified. Hauge left Gushan Beizimanda to garrison Shaanxi and continue to wipe out the remaining evil. He and Wu Sangui and others marched into Sichuan.
