On the Cultural Implication of Hakka Dragon House

Backed by the mountain forest, the whole Hakka dragon enclosure is surrounded by green trees, and the pond, Heping and dragon enclosure in front of the door just form a "Tai Chi Circle" with the north-south meridian as the central axis and symmetrical left and right. From the front, the Dragon House occupies the highest point, followed by Shangtang, nave and Xiatang, which are arranged in a symmetrical quadrangle form, overlapping from front to back and forming the core of the whole group. Purlins are in the middle, usually lived by people with the highest qualifications. In terms of architectural structure, the Wai Lung House inherited the buildings, walls and sloping roofs of traditional houses in the Central Plains. According to the climate characteristics in the south, the basic building unit is "four fans and three rooms", and the household unit with "three halls and two horizontal" as the core is formed. In the plane layout, it is well-defined, symmetrical and has an obvious central axis. The main building houses are arranged on the central axis, and the ancillary buildings are located on both sides of the main building.

The architectural feature of Dragon House is the projection of ancient Yin and Yang thoughts. Reflected in the harmony between architectural objects and natural terrain, it conforms to the philosophical principle of "harmony between man and nature". The mountain is the skeleton that supports the house, and it is also a natural place for people's living resources. Dragon house is always built beside the mountain, and it also pays great attention to the terrain.

Around the house, the branches from the main vein merge with each other. In some dragon enclosure houses with slightly insufficient mountains, feng shui forests are often built on the hillside behind the houses, and only farming is allowed, and logging is not allowed, so as to gain water by hiding the wind. Hakka ancestors thought that "the prosperity of trees leads to the prosperity of houses, and the decline of trees leads to the decline of houses", which is a kind of "feng shui" of human factors.

There is a semi-circular pond in front of the Dragon House, which not only provides convenience for daily life, but also contains the potential consciousness of perfecting the foundation of Yin and Yang, spouse and Shanying family.
