Yancheng City is located in the central coastal area of ??Jiangsu, with 32°34′-34°28′ north latitude and 119°27′-120°54′ east longitude. It borders the Yellow Sea to the east, Nantong City and Taizhou City to the south, and 119°27′-120°54′ east longitude. It is connected to Yangzhou City and Huai'an City, and borders Lianyungang City to the north, with a total area of ??14,983 square kilometers and an urban built-up area of ??29.3 square kilometers. The eastern coastline of the city is 582 kilometers long, accounting for about 56% of the total coastline length of Jiangsu Province. The coastal tidal flat area is more than 6.8 million acres, accounting for 75% of the province's tidal flat area. It is also growing toward the sea at a land-forming rate of 40,000 to 50,000 acres every year. The entire territory is a plain landform, with most areas being less than 5 meters above sea level. The height is less than 8 meters. It is divided into 3 plain areas: Huanghuai Plain Area, Lixiahe Plain Area and Binhai Plain Area. The Huanghuai Plain is located to the north of the Northern Jiangsu Irrigation Canal. Its terrain is roughly centered on the abandoned Yellow River and gradually decreases toward the northeast and southeast. The highest point of the abandoned Yellow River reaches 8.5 meters above sea level, and the lowest point is only 1 meter. The Lixiahe plain area is located south of the main irrigation canal in Northern Jiangsu and west of the Chuanchang River. This plain area is high on all sides and low in the middle, with an altitude of about 1 meter. The coastal plain area is located south of the main irrigation canal and east of the Chuanchang River. It slopes gently from southeast to northwest. The ground elevation is between 1.5-4.5 meters. The area within Dongtai is about 4-5 meters, and gradually decreases toward the north, reaching the lowest point at Sheyang River.
There are many rivers in the territory and the water network is densely covered. It is roughly bounded by the Waste Yellow River and is divided into the Huaihe River system and the Yimusi River system. The former has a drainage area of ??more than 13,700 square kilometers, accounting for approximately 91.4% of the city's total area. The main rivers include the Northern Jiangsu Irrigation Canal, Sheyang River, Huangsha Port, Xinyang Port, Tongyu Canal, Chuanchang River, Guanhe River, etc.
