I first drew a local Huizhou architecture in a small village. That small village has not been used as a tourist project, and every family has kept a traditional life. We sat in a small pavilion in the village with a small bridge under it. It is said that this pavilion was built in the Southern Song Dynasty. After more than 1000 years of war, it stands still.
The layout of this village pays great attention to geomantic omen. From the orientation of the house to the layout of the courtyard, it is strictly in accordance with Feng Shui. There is a family that belongs to the largest and most luxurious house in the village. The door faces a mountain. In order to avoid taboo, a peach tree was specially planted in the courtyard wall. When the peach blossoms, the flowers just stick out of the window. It is said that the family has been safe since then.
There is also a small river in the village, and the layout of the whole village is developed along the river. Every small bridge and every cloister is cleverly arranged. The center of the village is this river, which fully embodies the style of one mountain and one water. The architecture of the whole village fully embodies the principle of geomantic omen in architecture.
In Huizhou, I also visited several places. Almost all residential villages follow the principle of geomantic design. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why Huizhou people can get rich.
