Has Chiang Kai-shek's body been cremated?

Chiang Kai-shek's body was not cremated, but embalmed. After Chiang Kai-shek died of illness, his body was embalmed. At that time, the anti-corrosion technology was more traditional-first, four holes were punched in the body, and then formalin was injected into the body.

After Chiang Kai-shek's death, the issue of body placement was quickly put on the agenda. On the evening of April 5th, Jiang Jingguo and Song Meiling discussed the funeral. It was agreed that Chiang Kai-shek's coffin would be temporarily buried in Cihu, 60 kilometers south of Taipei. Cihu Lake, formerly known as "Yiwei", was originally an artificial reservoir with a trumpet shape and clear water and green mountains.

There is an extinct volcano at an altitude of more than 300 meters near Cihu, called Caoling Mountain, which is the only volcanic site in Taoyuan County. In the early 1960s, when Chiang Kai-shek passed by, he took a fancy to this treasure trove of geomantic omen. He built a quadrangle-style "palace" in China and named it "Cihu". Jiang stayed here before his death, and asked the coffin to be buried here temporarily after his death, next to Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum at the foot of Nanjing Purple Mountain.

At 2 am on April 6, Chiang Kai-shek's body was moved from Shilin's official residence to Veterans General Hospital. The next day, people were allowed to look at Chiang Kai-shek's remains. There are five crosses made of chrysanthemums in front of the tomb, which were presented by Song Meiling, his eldest son Jiang Jingguo, his second son Jiang Weiguo, his grandchildren Jiang Xiaowu and Jiang Xiaoyong. On April 9, Chiang Kai-shek's coffin was moved to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. April 16 was Chiang Kai-shek's funeral, and the Taiwan Province provincial authorities held a grand funeral for Chiang Kai-shek. 200,000 Huang Juhua decorated the hearse, and more than 2,000 people saw Chiang Kai-shek off.

However, there are also reports that Chiang Kai-shek took a fancy to Cihu at that time, not to "sleep peacefully" behind him, but to turn it into a wartime evacuation place for the "Presidential Office".
