Where is Wu Qian’s hometown, Yutang Lane?
In the southeast corner of Xiuning County, where Yuzhong Street leads to the back street (today’s Kuotou County Sugar and Tobacco Company and Native Products Company to Wanxiu Lane area). In the past, the alley was the residence of the Wu family. On the north side of the alley were East Street, Zhanyun Academy, Xianqian Street, Xiuning County Yamen, etc., which were lined with squares. From the late Song Dynasty to the Republic of China, nearly 30 archways were built in various dynasties on the East Street and alleys in order to express the wind in the residence. Among them, Baoning Fang on the southeast street, Channing Fang at the southeast city gate, Jinmin Fang on Xianqian Street, Jinshi Fang in front of Shuangjing, Zou Lufang on the southeast on Xuegong East Road, Jingkuifang and Qiuguan Dafu on the east gate Filial Fang, Xiaozi Fang, Mother's Day Zi Xiaofang, Guo Tou's father and son Shangshu Fang, Ji Di Fang, Xueshifang, etc. were all prominent for a time. In particular, the Painting Brocade Workshop at the entrance of Yutang Lane also records a history of returning home with rich clothes and a loving mother and a filial son: Wu Yuan, the elder brother of the number one scholar Wu Qian, studied and became an official. He reached the position of deputy prime minister. He was extremely rich and glorious, but died when he was old. I miss my hometown and my stepmother who raised me all day long. When his stepmother was seriously ill, he resigned resolutely and rushed back from Xuancheng to Xiuning Yutang Lane to serve the decoction. After the stepmother passed away, she was buried thickly and kept filial piety in her tomb. Xiaoman, who named himself Tui'an, spent all day reciting poems and painting at his former residence in Yutang Lane until he was buried in Xiuning's hometown. People felt their filial piety and specially painted brocade squares to commemorate it.
