The tomb of Empress Dowager Cixi was in Tomb-Sweeping Day on the 9th day of March in the 12th year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty. Emperor Tongzhi personally surveyed Feng Shui, and on 15, Pingdingshan was changed to Puxiang Valley, which was designated as the tomb of Empress Dowager Ci 'an, and Putuo Mountain was renamed Putuo Valley, which was designated as the tomb of Empress Dowager Cixi.
The design and construction of these two mausoleums were presided over by the seventh model Lei Tingchang. Construction started in August of that year and was completed in June of Guangxu five years. It lasted six years and cost more than five million yuan. The Empress Dowager Cixi Mausoleum was rebuilt again in the 21st year of Guangxu. One year after the death of Cixi, she was buried in the underground palace in October of the first year of Xuantong (1909 1 15).
