Second, the class limitations of the Westernization School itself determine that they are not only the founders and operators of modern industry, but also their destroyers and destroyers. Their feudal yamen and bureaucratic system will inevitably lead to the failure of Westernization enterprises.
Third, one of the purposes of the Westernization Movement was to resist foreign aggression. However, in hosting diplomatic activities, the Westernization School insisted on "harmony with foreign countries" and compromised and surrendered to foreign countries. The modern enterprises they founded had the function of resisting foreign aggression and "benefiting foreigners a little", but they could not change the semi-colonial and semi-feudal social status of China. In the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, the goal of "self-improvement" and "seeking wealth" advertised by the Westernization School failed to be realized, and the Westernization Movement basically failed. The Westernization School advocated "middle school as the body and western learning as the application", hoping to use advanced technology to maintain feudal rule, and the reform would not touch the feudal system. Because the reform only absorbs western advanced technology, but does not learn from western advanced technology, it is bound to fail.

However, we should be wary that foreigners' strategy towards China has not changed since the last years of the Qing Dynasty, and from now on, the more China develops, the more they have to take various means to obstruct it. The book "New Imperialism in China" by Qi Xianping is very good, which exposes the purpose of the West in China, and should be studied well. I don't want to make a long speech on this issue, but I just put forward several points:
First, the system and mechanism must adapt to the world trend. Without a good system and mechanism, we can't compete with western countries. First of all, we must solve the problem of corruption. If a large amount of central investment forms a large amount of bureaucratic capital and private capital, such a system will be terrible. In particular, if the bureaucratic capital is too large, the society will not be fair. Comrade Xiaoping said, "Let a few people get rich first, and help them get rich first." There will be only the first half of the sentence left. The establishment of an excellent system must completely move from rule by man to rule by law. Let the system and mechanism manage the society, not let people manage the society.
second, stick to your own essence. It is necessary to introduce foreign capital, but it is more important to introduce technology and management. Don't expect foreigners to solve everything. China has its own reality in China, and now it is time to seriously sum up our experience and lessons of reform and opening up in the past 3 years. The current lessons and problems can't be traced back too far, so we should analyze the outstanding problems we have at present realistically. If there is a financial crisis in the west that makes us take medicine in China, such a lesson should be summed up and overcome seriously.
Third, stick to your own scientific development path. Development is the first priority. But development must adhere to scientific development. At present, there is overcapacity in many industries. The reason is that we launched a large number of projects too quickly a few years ago, which formed GDP but did not form new economic growth points. After the project is completed, there is a lot of idleness. Just to give an example, we produce and consume more than 3 billion tons of coal a year, which is conservatively estimated to account for more than 2% of the world's total consumption, but the GDP we created in that year only accounted for 8%. This shows that there is something wrong with our energy consumption structure and our economic growth structure.
