How big is the Dayu Mountain Buddha in Hong Kong?
The statue of Sakyamuni Buddha on Lantau Island in Hong Kong is known as the Giant Buddha in the Temple of Heaven in Hong Kong. It consists of 200 bronze castings, with a height of 26 meters, a bottom of 34 meters and a weight of 220 metric tons. It is the largest outdoor bronze sitting Buddha in the world. The face of the Buddha statue is based on Lu Kun-Shunafo in the grottoes, and the clothing texture and headdress are based on Siddhartha Gautama in Cave 36 of Dunhuang. The giant Buddha sits on the lotus, and the mud is not stained. In the three-story pedestal symbolizing the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, there is an exhibition hall. Now, the Giant Buddha in the Temple of Heaven has become a famous religious building and tourist attraction in Hong Kong.
