Guangxi Huopu Wenchang Fengshui Pagoda

Most ancient pagodas in Guangxi are Feng Shui pagodas. Therefore, many feng shui stories about ancient pagodas are widely circulated among the people. Among these stories, the Wenchang Tower in Hepu is the most fascinating and puzzling one.

Wenchang Tower, located in the southern suburb of Hepu County, is also called Wenbifeng and Fanta by the locals. When the reporter visited Wenchang Tower in Hepu County in mid-March, he found that the "Han Dynasty Cultural Museum" in Hepu was separated from Wenchang Tower by only one road. The famous Hepu Guhan Group is hidden in the dense forest around Wenchang Tower. The sea breeze is blowing, and the tombs are dense, which makes people feel a bit mysterious.

I want to know who drove the rhinoceros away.

The ancients built towers, paying special attention to "feng shui fortune". Speaking of Wenchang Tower in the southern suburbs of the county, some Hepu people will bitterly mention an ancient man, Kang Jitian, and will angrily talk about Kangjitian Wenchang Tower's "bad behavior" of "destroying Hepu Feng Shui".

According to legend, during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, Kang Jitian, a scholar, was appointed as the magistrate of Lianzhou, and the magistrate was located in Hepu County today. As soon as Kang Jitian, who is proficient in Feng Shui, arrived in Hepu, he looked around the terrain. He found that Hepu is a "rhinoceros in the sea" and the south of the city is a "auspicious place for rhinoceros". There are many cemeteries in this area. Whoever buries an acupoint occasionally will be expensive for his descendants. Expensive children and grandchildren will inevitably threaten the status of "Kangfu". So Kang Jitian ordered people to build Wenchang Tower in the south of the city. When the sun sets, the long projection of the tower is like a seven-segment Strafe, whipping the rhinoceros and driving it back to break the feng shui. It is said that Kang Jitian's move made Hepu unable to produce talents for a hundred years!

But careful people will immediately find that the so-called "Ji Kang Tian Li Wenchang Tower breaks Hepu Feng Shui" can't be true at all. Wenchang Pagoda was built in the forty-first year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 16 13), while Kangjitian was promoted from Qinzhou to Lianzhou as a magistrate in the thirty-seventh year of Qingganlong (A.D. 1773). When he arrived in Hepu, Wenchang Tower had been erected.

According to the textual research of Mr. Huang, an expert in literature and history in Beihai, Kang Jitian, the so-called "Hepu Feng Shui expert", is actually an accomplished official. He is "honest and upright as an official, and beneficial to Qin Lian." When Kang Jitian was the magistrate of Lianzhou, he introduced the technology of planting mulberry and sericulture, which solved many farmers' livelihood problems. He presided over the restoration of Haimen Academy and promoted the cause of culture and education. He dredged ditches, improved urban drainage system and rural farmland irrigation facilities; He also built streets and bridges in the city, as well as garden facilities such as "Dongpo Pavilion" and "Leqingxuan", which made Lianzhou City more tidy and beautiful. ...

Of course, folklore is not groundless. According to records, Kang Jitian did manage to build a tower in Hepu-Wenfeng Tower. Unfortunately, the tower has collapsed.

About Hepu Wenchang Tower, there are two stories that spread more widely among Hepu people:

First, it is said that the ancient Hepu Lianjiang River was often flooded, endangering people's livelihood. One year, a huge rhinoceros came out of nowhere and stayed at the corner of Lianjiang. Since then, the river has stopped flooding and people can live in peace. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, the government had various tax corvees. But whenever an official goes to Lianjiang to extort money, the rhinoceros will become active and scare away the officials. After some planning, angry officials built Wenchang Tower on the high slope of Lianjiang bend. After the completion of the tower, whenever the sun shines obliquely, the shadow of the tower will be reflected in the river bend, like a whip beating on the rhinoceros, so that the rhinoceros can not settle down in Lianjiang and has to flee elsewhere. After that, corrupt officials can do whatever they want again.

Another way of saying it is: One year in the Ming Dynasty, a "ghost guy" came to Lianzhou (a derogatory term for foreign missionaries in Lianzhou at that time). This "ghost" has a sharp eye and can see through stones. Once, "Fan Guigui" came to Lianjiang and saw a big rhinoceros in the water at a glance. He immediately realized that this was a spiritual thing, and had a premonition that Lianjiang would become a big shot in the future. In order to contain Lianzhou, the "Ghost Guy" fabricated a rumor saying: "The rhinoceros in the bend of the river is an evil spirit, and it will harm this place one day if it is not removed." Encouraged by it, the government built a tower similar to a bullwhip on the hillside next to the bend of Lianjiang River. After the tower was built, it kept beating the rhinoceros like a whip, which made it restless and had to flee to other places. Since then, Lianzhou has lost talent. Therefore, some people in Hepu also call Wenchang Tower "Fanta".
