Singapore's famous Keppel Harbor, bordering the north side of the Singapore Strait in the south, is the largest entrepot in the Asia-Pacific region and one of the largest container ports in the world. Keppel Harbor is close to the shipping artery between the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, and its strategic position is very important. It has developed into an internationally famous entrepot. Singapore Port * * * has more than 250 routes connecting major ports in the world, and various ships from about 80 countries and regions 130 shipping companies enter and leave the port day and night. The port has a 400,000-ton giant dry dock, which can repair the world's largest supertanker and is the largest ship repair base in Asia. The port implements the policy of free port, providing convenience and preferential treatment for merchants, such as reducing storage fees, loading and unloading fees and cargo management fees for transit goods, so as to attract shipping companies from all over the world and further consolidate its position as an international shipping center. By the end of 20111,the total tonnage of ships docked in Keppel Harbor exceeded 2 billion tons.
Singapore Strait is a part of Malacca Strait, which is located to the south of Singapore and to the north of Riau Islands. It is a waterway corridor connecting the Straits of Malacca in the west and the South China Sea in the east (that is, a connecting fjord between the Indian Ocean water system and the Pacific Ocean water system). It is the busiest waterway in Southeast Asia, ranging from north latitude 1 degree 10 minute to east longitude 1 degree 20 minute, and from east longitude 103 degree 40 minute to east longitude 104 degree/0 minute. A preliminary report on the navigation capacity of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (Singapore and Ma Haixia) points out that the Singapore Strait still has enough navigation capacity to cope with the expected increase in ship traffic without affecting navigation efficiency and safety.
