When was the Great Buddha Temple in Guangzhou built?

The Guangzhou Buddha Temple is located in Huixin Middle Street, Huifu East Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. The Great Buddha Temple is modeled after the official temple of the capital, and is rebuilt in the local Lingnan style. It has high cultural and artistic value. The Great Buddha Temple was first built in the Southern Han Dynasty and was named Xinzang Temple. It was later expanded into Longzang Temple in the Ming Dynasty. In the third year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, King Pingnan was delighted to invest money to build the temple here and cast three large bronze Buddhas around the temple. Therefore, it is called the Great Buddha Temple.

The new building of the Big Buddha Temple has been completed. However, after the temple was expanded, it was blocked by a row of arcades on Xihu Road and affected the feng shui. Therefore, these historical buildings will also be demolished to make way.

In 1981, Master Guangming, vice president of the Guangzhou Buddhist Association, became the abbot and began to rebuild it. After hard work, the main hall was restored to its original appearance, and the three large bronze Buddha statues were also recast, each 6 meters high and weighing 10 tons. The number of tourists and pilgrims from home and abroad who come to visit and worship the Buddha is increasing day by day.

The main hall of the Great Buddha Temple faces north and faces south, with a construction area of ??1,200 square meters. It is still the largest in Lingnan. Although it has been eroded by wind and rain for more than 300 years, its style still remains. The high-quality wood donated by King Annan was used as the beam and column frame, and it is still basically intact today.
