According to the Associated Press, on August 28, Hurricane Katrina rushed towards the US port city of New Orleans at a speed of 282 kilometers per hour. Mayor Ray Nagin issued an injunction that day , everyone in the city evacuated urgently.
Considering that it would be difficult for some tourists to evacuate, New Orleans has set up 10 shelters, including the "Superdome" (New Orleans Bowl), one of the city's landmark buildings.
Mayor Nagin said that the injunction is unprecedented, mainly considering that the huge waves brought by "Katrina" are likely to jump over the flood control levees. It was the first time in the history of New Orleans that such a strong hurricane hit directly.
