As we all know, the Yangtze River is the largest river with water energy in the world, and its length is the first in Asia and the third in the world. The richness of its water resources has reached about 36% of the total river runoff in China. The Yangtze River has more water on the whole earth than the Congo River and the Amazon River, and even the Mississippi River in the United States, which has a huge basin area, is not comparable.
Why can't the depth of the Three Gorges Dam be the maximum depth of the Yangtze River? Indeed, unlike the shallow water depth of the Yangtze River, the dam height of the Three Gorges Dam has reached 1, 8 1 m, and even the normal water level is as high as 1.75 m, but this concrete gravity dam is a water conservancy project. This special building not only has a total storage capacity of 39.3 billion, but also has a flood control storage capacity of 22 1.5 billion cubic meters, with a total installed capacity of 10 million kilowatts ranking first in the world.
The eighth spillway section of the Three Gorges Dam is located in the middle of the river bed, and 23 deep spillway holes with an elevation of 90 meters and 20 surface spillway holes with a width of 8 meters are designed respectively. In fact, the principle adopted by these two spillway holes is to realize energy dissipation through the way of picking up the flow through the nose sill. However, the significance of the Three Gorges Dam construction is not only to resist the once-in-a-century flood, but also to replenish water, generate electricity and navigate.
Although the flood control capacity of the Three Gorges Dam can reduce the peak flow by 27,000 to 33,000 cubic meters per second, it has reached the first place in the field of water conservancy projects in the world. However, the reservoir depth of the Three Gorges Dam can't be regarded as the maximum natural water depth of the Yangtze River, and the artificial water conservancy project is essentially different from the natural water depth of the river, and the special buildings built locally can't represent the normal water depth of the whole Yangtze River.
