According to the plan of 1985, there is a series of statues of "the soul of the southern pearl" on the north side of Beibu Gulf Square. This sculpture was selected from more than 100 schemes, and the scheme designed by Professor Ye Yushan, a famous sculptor in China, was finally selected.
The whole sculpture of the central building of Beibu Gulf Plaza covers an area of 600 square meters and consists of three parts: the pool, the sculpture group and the monument. They are the symbols of the sea and the North Sea-Nanzhu, the father of the sea, the daughter of Pearl, and the hardworking people of the North Sea. The corresponding building indicates that the pool of the sea is circular, with a diameter of13.8m and a storage capacity of150m2, indicating the South Pearl. In the center of the pool stands a carved pearl shell monument with a height of 1 2m, and a stainless steel ball with a diameter of1m is supported in the three-dimensional shell, which symbolizes that the pearl shell is pregnant with bright pearls. Around the main monument in the pond, there are three groups of sculptures with unique shapes, namely the Pearl Goddess-the Pearl Goddess riding a sea fish, the hardworking people of Beihai-the young fisherman riding a turtle and the fisherman riding a seahorse by the father of the sea. Each group of statues is 5 meters high and made of alloy copper.
Today, it consists of five functional areas, namely, the "Soul of the South Pearl" central area, the assembly square area, the central axis area, the cultural square area and the lawn area. The central area of the square with the "Soul of the South Pearl" statue as the landmark building is the core functional area. The pool, fountain, sculpture group and three surrounding flower beds set off the tall and magnificent "Soul of the South Pearl" sculpture, which fully embodies the culture and local characteristics of the South Pearl and becomes a place for tourists to enjoy the city scenery.
