Rivers in Mishan Town

Jumu River is the largest river in Wendeng City, with a main stream of 58 kilometers and a drainage area of 1.278 square kilometers. It is the largest river in Weihai. It starts from the remnant vein of Kunyu Mountain, runs through nine towns in Wendeng City, and finally ends at Yaotou Mountain in Song villages and towns. There are three isolated mountains here, namely Guanshan, Mi Shan and Pisui Mountain, which protrude along the river bank. Muzhu River has been the mother river of Kunyu Mountain since ancient times. The legend about her has lasted for thousands of years.

According to legend, the Jade Emperor had a whim, and Jiro was sent down to earth in the middle of the night to set up mountains and water to benefit the world. Drunk Jiro, with two mountains on his shoulders and one mountain in his hand, hurried to the world. In a trance, the cock crowed at dawn, making his hand tight, and the rope tied to the mountain slammed, and the mountain he mentioned suddenly fell into the clouds. Erlang God hurried down the clouds and separated the three mountains equally, with the northern mountain facing south and the northern mountain facing back. There is a faint trend of king's landing, so it is named Guanshan, and Nanshan is named Zuosui Mountain because of Erlang God's rope. Zhongshan was named Mishan because of its serious collapse and damage.

Positioning the three mountains, Erlang grabbed the pole, dug a spring at the foot of the three mountains, and then cut the river directly into the South China Sea. Watching the surging spring water converge into a river, I suddenly felt that the river was narrow and wanted to reorganize, but the rooster crowed three times and it was time to die. Anxious, I saw a sow swimming here at night, so I was named as a fairy pig to protect the river and told him to arch the river to avoid flooding and harming the local people, hence the name sow river.

It is also said that the fairy pig gave birth to eighteen sons. Soon after birth, a cloud wandered on the demon road and wanted to take it for himself. So he waved a stone sword and practiced witchcraft, which made the people along the coast miserable for a time. Fairy pig used sand mining to compete with the demon road, making its eighteen sons talk and fight against the demon road, and today's eighteen tributaries were formed. The next morning, the local people found a big sand ridge at the foot of Mi Shan, which was shaped like a giant pig. Only then did I know that the fairy pig had died with Yaolu in order to keep one side safe.

The well-known folk song "Sowing eighteen milks in the river, taking a walk, and throwing it around" vividly shows Zhu Xian's leisure in protecting the river. However, since the death of the fairy pig, the sow river has often been flooded. 1958, Wendeng people "fought mountains and rivers" and built Mishan Reservoir, one of the three major reservoirs in Shandong Province, at the foot of Mi Shan. Since then, the sow river has become a well-known land of fish and rice.
