On July 198 1 day (Monday, June 12 in the summer calendar year), the Tuojiang River and Jiuqu River surged, resulting in a once-in-a-century flood. The downtown area of Ziyang (now mainly the old city) became a Wang Yang, except for the area of Beimen Railway Station. Big wooden boats can travel at the intersection of department stores in the middle section of Heping Road, and the buildings in the city are generally flooded on the first and second floors. At that time, the vegetable farmers' earth-walled houses on the North Gate Dam, the East Gate Dam and the South Gate Dam in Fucheng completely collapsed. The flood rose from the early morning of 13 to the urban area, peaked at around 3 pm, and then slowly subsided until the afternoon of 14, leaving an average of nearly 1 foot of silt on the streets and underground of the city. The losses caused by floods to cities and residents are enormous. Only the siltation and drainage lasted for more than a week, and vegetables, grain and other crops on several dams around the city were basically not harvested after being washed and submerged. The restoration and reconstruction of urban houses and municipal public facilities lasted for a long time.

198 1 July 12 is a cloudy sunny day, especially sultry. The next three days from 13 to 15 are the days of the senior high school entrance examination. Ziyang urban and rural middle school junior high school graduates have all gathered in the county seat to familiarize themselves with the examination room and prepare for the formal examination in the next two days. I also live on the second floor of Jiannan Road Guest House in Linjiang District of CCBA, and review and prepare for the exam with the teachers who teach the graduating class.

The day before the exam, 12, it was sunny and sultry, but there was no sign of rain. After midnight that day, the rain suddenly came and kept raining. On June 5438+03, the first day of the senior high school entrance examination, it rained all day, so the candidates went back and forth between their residence and a small examination room in Jiang Yan in the rain and completed the Chinese and political examinations. On that day, the streets were full of people walking with umbrellas, especially the students in the morning, middle and evening. The hard work of the candidates can be imagined. The teacher who leads the team never leaves the students, especially afraid that the students will catch a cold or get sick or make mistakes in the exam. The heavy rain has not stopped since the wee hours of 13. The teacher who led the team saw that many students' clothes were wet and didn't bring any extra clothes to change. Besides helping them, they are also thinking about how to cope with tomorrow's exam.

It rained heavily for another night, and it was even smaller after midnight, about 5 am. Someone downstairs said that the water was rising. I went downstairs to find out, and made sure that the whole district office compound was knee-deep with water, and it was still rising. Several of our leading teachers quickly woke up all the students, went downstairs with their own things, and under the guidance of the teacher, filed through knee-deep water, crossed the dam and retreated to Jiannan Road, a higher ground. If it is later, we will be trapped upstairs in the hotel and can't get out, because the courtyard of the district office will soon rise to more than one person. At 7 o'clock in the morning, we were informed that the entrance examination of the county admissions office was suspended and the time and place for the second interview were determined. So the teachers discussed how to divide the work and lead the team, take the students out of the county as soon as possible and go home safely. Everyone treaded water along Heping Road street with the crowd and evacuated to the higher ground around the railway station. Along the way, I saw citizens who helped the elderly and brought the young. They came to Yueshan and Lianhuashan highlands in the north gate with their burdens. At that time, I saw a wooden boat passing in front of Da 'nan Street and the department store. In this way, we finally came to Beimen Railway Station, and then walked along the railway line to Houjiaping, where the school is located. At that time, the train had stopped, and the railway subgrade was high, which became an important evacuation passage for many people who evacuated from the county. In this way, along the arc route from the north to the southwest of the railway line, and then looking in the direction of Nanmenba and the urban area, I saw a Zeguo, Wang Yang. The muddy yellow flood flooded the upper section of the telephone pole in a short time, and some people climbed to the top of the telephone pole to call for help. Low-rise houses flooded the roof, and all the buildings were surrounded by floods and became islands. Only the upper floors appeared. From a distance, many people are waiting for help on the roof. At that time, there were motorboats and wooden boats on Nanmenba to save people. To the west of the railway (today's new urban area), except for the 43 1 factory at that time, there are all large areas of farmland. In addition to the hillside highlands, the low-lying areas along the Jiuqu River, including Sunjiaba, Ximenba and Bajiaolin, have completely become water towns in Wang Yang. On the way, we walked near Changshou Bridge. The villagers who came face to face told a teacher of the same school that he lived on Luojiaba near Tuojiang River and his house was washed away by the flood. The teacher was in a heavy mood, but insisted on taking the students to the vicinity of Luojiaba before saying goodbye to everyone and going back to deal with family affairs and looking for relatives. Several of our teachers evacuated the students safely, and finally let two or three of them go home directly, stressing that we are not allowed to go to relatives or classmates' homes at this time, and we must reunite with our parents and relatives to help our families cope with the losses and troubles caused by the storm and flood.

At three or four o'clock in the afternoon, we stood on the top of the Tuojiang River in Houjiaping Sugar Factory and looked out. We can see that the mighty river has already flooded Luojiaba, Baisha Dam and Maliuba along the river, and the turbulent river is rolling down the river. The river is several times wider than usual. There are a lot of crop straws, whole trees, whole straw houses, and all kinds of furniture, wood, oil drums and so on rolling and floating on the river. The scenery is both spectacular and very sad-this is a picture of the disaster caused by nature to human civilization and ecological environment!

In the evening, the flood peak gradually decreased until the second and third days. I saw that many low dams on both sides of the river were washed away, leaving only pebble beaches, and farmers' houses on the dams were basically gone. According to the statistics released by the hydrological department, the water level of Tuojiang River suddenly rose to 14.959m, the average water depth in the urban area was 2.6M, the Ximencha reached 4.65,438+02 m, the Nanmen Agricultural Bureau reached 3.76m, and the middle section of Heping Road reached1.64 m.

The reason for this extraordinary flood is that the rainfall in northern Sichuan and south-central Sichuan along the Tuojiang River on June 5438+03 concentrated the total rainfall of the whole year, and the rainfall on that day flowed downstream from north to south, resulting in both flood peaks and rainwater, which seriously stranded the water along the river and flooded both banks. It is another flood in 83 years after the catastrophic flood in the 24th year of Guangxu (1898). The losses to the country and people's lives and property are enormous, but under the leadership of party committees and governments at all levels, a series of effective measures have been taken for forecasting, evacuation and post-disaster reconstruction, so the recovery and reconstruction are relatively rapid.

198 1 after the senior high school entrance examination was postponed for more than 20 days, 43 1 factory children's school was chosen as the examination room, and the examination continued, which still had little impact on the college entrance examination and senior high school entrance examination in that year. The restoration and reconstruction of various losses caused by urban and rural floods will become the focus of all work in the next year or so.
