Guo Songnian, also known as Guo Chunsen, is from Yagang, Tongling, Wuxuan. He studied in Japan in 1905 and graduated from the University of Political Science and Law. In 1911, he served as dean of the Yunnan School of Law and Politics, and successively served as secretary-general of the Guangxi Governor-General's Office and chief of staff of the Guangdong Governor-General Major General. Member of the Second National Congress of the Republic of China and member of the Senate.
Guo Songnian Manor is 18 kilometers away from Wuxuan County and about 1,000 meters away from National Highway 209. In the 9th year of the Republic of China (1920), foreign construction craftsmen were hired for construction. It took 5 years and 180,000 taels of silver to build a combined Chinese and Western manor with 99 houses. Among them, there are 10 second-floor rooms on the left and right sides of the gate, 29 upper and lower halls, 40 side rooms on both sides, 14 rear rooms, four turrets at the four corners, and 2 toilets in the vestibule. The whole building is in the shape of a square cluster, with strict symmetry on the left and right. It has a front courtyard and a backyard. There is a semi-garden pond in the front courtyard. European architectural art is introduced on the basis of Lingnan architecture, combining Chinese and Western styles. It has a complete layout, complete functions, rigorous cutting materials, exquisite workmanship, and is self-contained. The reliefs on the inner and outer walls of ancient pines, flowers, plants, birds, and animals are lifelike. Some people say: the materials are taken from neighboring villages, the style is imitated from the West, the pillars carry the Big Dipper, and the bright light enters Nanxiang.
