Jia Luhe's Hometown Prose

My hometown is located in the vast land of eastern Henan plain, where there are rich products and outstanding people. There is a river in my hometown named Jia Luhe, which is more than 20 kilometers long in our county. It has three tributaries: Beikanggou, Shuangyue River and Kanggou River. There are six branches of Mingjiagou, Liumai River, Daiqigou, Hongyegou, Nankanggou and Dugong River, and there are many unnamed rivers. They crisscross, day and night, flowing in the arms of their hometown. Our village is on the east coast of Jia Luhe. Like many rural children, I grew up drinking Jia Luhe. The long Jia Luhe has nurtured generations of hardworking and simple folks, and nurtured the yellow land on which people in my hometown depend for their livelihood.

Speaking of Jia Luhe, its birthplace is in xinmi city, Henan Province, which stretches for more than 200 kilometers and flows into the Huaihe River through the Shahe River in Zhoukou. No matter where it originated or where it flows, it is not far from the Yellow River, but Jia Luhe belongs to the Huaihe River system, which is determined by its unique geographical location. Jia Luhe has a long history, and the records of reading ancient books and documents can be traced back to the Spring and Autumn Period. According to legend, it was wei ren who dug the "gap", which became the dividing line between Liu Bang and Xiang Yu's army when Chu and Han fought for hegemony. If this is true, Jia Luhe has a history of more than 2,000 years. Due to people's low productivity and natural conditions at that time, most people could only live along the river. On the one hand, river water is the source of people's daily drinking. On the other hand, river water can be used to irrigate farmland. Crops growing in farmland can never be irrigated without boiling water. Without water, crops will dry up and die, and people's production and life will be seriously affected.

Since the Northern Song Dynasty, Jia Luhe has been an ancient canal, connecting the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Ships loaded with southern silk, porcelain and rice went upstream and stayed in today's Zhuxian Town. At that time, Zhuxian Town was a big water pier. Ships from the south to the north passed through here like a shuttle. Merchants frequently exchanged needed goods and exchanged needed goods with each other, and the exchanges between various ethnic groups were extremely prosperous. When Bao Zheng was in charge of Kaifeng, many businessmen regarded this river as a treasure trove of geomantic omen, built dikes to defend it, and entertained themselves. Because these buildings occupy the river for a long time, they not only cause a lot of sediment deposition, but also seriously affect the passage of ships. When Bao Zheng heard about it, he made an unannounced visit, realizing the seriousness of the problem, and immediately ordered strict rectification and cleaning up. Many dignitaries know Bao Zheng's moral integrity, and they are afraid of being his ghost. They quickly dismantled many illegal dams, inns and attics, successfully resumed water transportation and won the support of local people. People erected a monument to commemorate Bao Zheng's achievements. Up to now, a monument still stands in front of a temple in the border area between Kaifeng and two counties, recording this history and being paid tribute by future generations. This river was once named Huimin River. It can be seen that as long as you work for the people sincerely, the people and history will not forget. Because Jia Luhe is too close to the Yellow River, but it is only nearly one hundred miles away. In ancient times, the Yellow River often flooded, bringing a lot of sediment to Jia Luhe. The riverbed gradually became shallow, blocking the waterway, which was the most serious in the middle of Qing Dynasty. Although the government organized manpower and material resources to carry out several large-scale excavations, the effect was not obvious, and shipping gradually stopped, leaving only the functions of irrigation and drinking water. The bustling scene of Jia Luhe is like a historical dark cloud that has been blown away. It's just a visit that crosses history, and it seems that you can faintly see the shuttle back and forth on the surging river. On ships and docks, migrant workers are bending over and working hard. The shore is full of all kinds of goods and food that can't be moved. In the busy market, there were cries of peddling, and the boatman's song was melodious and beautiful. ...

Jia Luhe, the widest place is 100 meters, and the narrowest place is more than 30 meters. When the rainy season comes, the water is rushing and rolling eastward. As far as I can remember, there is also a wooden bridge about four or five meters wide on the river to connect the two banks. At that time, rural traffic was backward. It is common for people to carry farm tools, pull carts, drive cattle and carriages, raise whips and sing long tunes. They walked on the wooden bridge and harvested crops on the other side of the river. The harvested grain was used to fill a family's stomach and solve the family's livelihood problem. On weekdays, many villagers pull carts to the market to buy (sell) things. Although walking on the wooden bridge feels a little wobbly, this wooden bridge is the lifeline to the outside world. If you don't pass through here, you have to go around a dozen miles. Every year after the flood season, skilled craftsmen from several villages gather on the banks of Jia Luhe to repair the wooden bridge. They are carrying wood on their shoulders, holding hammers, nails and steel wires in their hands, repairing the loopholes in the bridge deck nervously and orderly, and tinkling sounds are ringing in their ears from time to time, beating the years. Although this wooden bridge has been eroded by many storms, it still stands on the river, like a weather-beaten old man, watching the villagers coming and going from south to north, witnessing the rolling river and smiling at the vicissitudes of life.

Now, the wooden bridge over the river has long since disappeared, and it has been replaced by a strong steel beam bridge. This steel beam bridge is the expectation of generations. People no longer have to worry, no longer have to worry about the harassment of floods, and feel more practical. The passing wooden bridge bears the joys and sorrows of generations, just like the passing grandparents, mothers, uncles, villagers who loved my relatives and loved me. Although the dust has gone away with the years, the memories left to me are still unforgettable and still jumping in front of my eyes.

Facing the warm breeze, walking on the levee, the willows on the river bank are touching the face of the wanderer. Stepping on the concrete pavement of the river embankment, I saw that the soil at the bottom of the subgrade and the embankment was still so compacted, and the soil layers were superimposed together, just like a heavy history book, page by page, vaguely mottled with the imprint of the years. The long river is sparkling, calm and clear. Several waterfowl graze in the water and sometimes disappear. All kinds of aquatic plants are lush in the river beach, and sheep in groups of three or five greedily eat dog seedlings and horsetail grass by the river. This river, which once brought floods and disasters to our ancestors, is now so calm. The scene of harmony between man and nature reminds us of the lively scene of our ancestors digging rivers and fighting each other. Hard-working and brave working people overcame the harsh natural conditions, never succumbed to the rolling torrent, shoveled deep into the mud, rolled wheels to build dikes, and locked this once unruly dragon tightly with iron tongs, so that it was tamed obediently and obeyed the people's command like a docile sheep, benefiting the people on both sides of the strait.

As far as I can remember, Mr. Zhong's family in the village is very good at catching fish. He has a son and a daughter. When the youngest daughter was three years old, the second grandmother died of a serious illness, leaving Mr. Zhong and two children to live hard. At that time, his son sledgehammer had just turned seven. Because of the pressure of life, Mr. Zhong has developed the skill of catching fish. There are several fishing nets used to catch fish at home, as well as self-made fishing hooks and other fishing gear. When I was a child, I often took a sledgehammer and Liangzi to bathe in the shallow water of the valley, catch small fish, touch mussels and have a water fight. Laughter and laughter echoed in the valley from time to time, which was our childhood paradise. At the end of summer, it is the time when fish and water are abundant in the river. Little friends have nothing to do. Old love stand watched Mr. Zhong catch fish in the river on the riverbank. He saw Mr. Zhong standing on the wooden boat with his feet on the blue waves, and the man and the wooden boat were self-contained. He threw a beautiful elliptical arc with his hand and the fishing net slowly sank into the water. After a while, a group of happy fish were entangled in fishing nets. They want to break through the shackles of fishing nets, but in the end they can't escape the fate of being killed with one tooth. After a long time, Mr. Zhong always gains a lot. Most of the fish fished out are sold by Mr. Zhong in the market to supplement the family. Influenced by Mr. Zhong, the sledgehammer is very good at water and soon becomes a good helper of Mr. Zhong. At that time, most villagers, like Mr. Zhong's family, had a lingering past and indissoluble bond with Jia Luhe.

In recent years, with the development of the times, sledgehammer and villagers have built many fish ponds not far from Jia Luhe. The water grass is green beside the fish pond, and the fish in the fish pond jump. Several wild ducks and unknown waterfowl frequently flew from nowhere near the water surface, sang to each other, and then swam to the bottom. Fish ponds are next to each other, and the water surface is golden under the sunlight, like a colorful cornucopia, full of villagers' dreams of getting rich. People sit on the edge of the fish pond in groups of three and five, pulling home and thinking about a bright future.

The sky is blue and the water is clear. After the fish pond has been harvested, Mr. Zhong is still the one who casts a net to catch fish, but he is no longer just trying to make a living, but reliving the warm heart mark of the past. Today's Sir Zhong is obviously old. The dust of the years has blown away his once young face, but he can never take away the memories of the past. Now, he still likes to put some "ecstasy" in the valley, catch some wild fish and watch them swim around in the bucket. Sir Zhong is happy in his heart. Seeing this warm scene, even childhood memories seem to come back.

As the saying goes, one side of the soil and water raises one side. In the five-year plan of the local government, Jia Luhe Eco-Park will be built around the Jia Luhe River Basin, and the park will become an entertainment place integrating tourism, leisure and sightseeing. Jia Luhe will surely reproduce the prosperous scene of the past, and Jia Luhe will also have clearer water and bluer sky. I think it over. When I retire, I will definitely go back to my hometown for the rest of my life, and then my life will be different.

Jia Luhe, like a three-dimensional epic, will continue to write his own legend. I sincerely praise Jia Luhe in my hometown and the hardworking and intelligent people in my hometown.
