Baolin Temple has experienced many ups and downs. In the second year of Tang Yifeng (677), Buddhism flourished when Huineng, the sixth ancestor of Zen Buddhism, presided over the temple. Dongpo usually talks about Zen beautifully and freely, but this poem is plain and straightforward.
