Works: The Story of Shi Zhongshan

brief introduction

This article is selected from seven episodes of Dongpo. Author Su Shi (1036—11) was born in Meishan, Meizhou (now meishan county, Sichuan). Su Xun, his father, and Su Zhe, his brother, are also called "Three Sus". They are essayists in the Northern Song Dynasty, and both of them are among the "Eight Masters in Tang and Song Dynasties". Su Shi's achievements in the history of China literature are more outstanding. Seven episodes of Dongpo has * * 100 volumes, including 40 episodes of Dongpo, 20 episodes of Hou Ji, sequel 12, recitation 15, 3 episodes of external department, internal department 10 and Ying Zhao 10. This article is a travel note written by Su Shi after visiting Shi Zhongshan. By exploring the basis of Shi Zhongshan's naming, it shows that if we want to know the truth, we must conduct on-the-spot investigation, and we should not trust others' remarks, let alone make subjective assumptions.

"The Water Classic Note says:' At the mouth of Peng Li, there is Shi Zhongshan.' Tang gaozu thought,' When you go down to a deep pool, the breeze beats the waves, and the water and stone fight, and the sound is like Hong Zhong'. "It is said that people often doubt this. Today, the clock is put in the water. Although the storm can't make a sound, what is this? It was not until the Tang Dynasty that Li Bo began to "visit the heritage" that he got two stones on the pool. "Listen to it, the sound in the south is loud, the sound in the north is clear and quiet." He thinks he has found the reason for Shi Zhongshan. The sound of stones is everywhere, and this alone is called a "clock". Why?

In June of the seventh year of Yuanfeng, Ding Chou, Yu, An, and Shi You, the eldest son, Mai, will go to Rao Dexing Wei and send him to Hukou, so that he can see the so-called stone clock. The monk in the temple asked the child to take an axe and choose one or two buttons among the stones. It was empty, but Gu Yu laughed and didn't believe it. To beat, take Mae by boat to the cliff. A thousand feet stand on the edge of a big stone, like a monster, and he wants to fight with people; Storks perched on the mountain, and their voices started, and the sky was in the clouds; Others said, "This stork is also a crane." Yu Fang longed for his return, but he made a loud sound on the water, like a bell and drum. The boatman was very afraid. If you can examine it, the mountain is full of caves, and I don't know its shallow depth. The microwave enters and the culvert surges. The ship returned to the two mountains and entered the port. There are big stones flowing in it, which can seat 100 people. The air is full of tricks, combined with feng shui, which is suffocating. There is a muffled sound of cymbals, corresponding to those who are facing the DPRK. Because he smiled, he said, "What do you know? If stunned, Zhou didn't make a move (5); Wei Zhuangzi's songs are also bells. Ancient people can't be bullied. "

What's the matter? Didn't you see it or hear it? What Li Yuan saw and heard was almost the same as that of Yu Tong, but it was unknown. The scholar-officials refused to spend the night on the boat under the cliff, so they didn't know; Fishermen and sailors, although they know, can't talk; This is why there is no such name as Shi Zhongshan in the world. However, shallow people beat stones with axes to find out why Shi Zhongshan was named, because they thought they were named after the truth. So I wrote down the past, lamented the simplicity of Li Daoyuan, and laughed at Li Bo's shallowness.

"Water Mirror" records: "There is Shi Zhongshan at the mouth of Poyang Lake." Li Daoyuan's Notes on Water Classics holds that "the mountain is near the deep pool, the breeze blows the waves, and the water and rocks collide, making a sound like Hong Zhong". People often doubt this statement. Nowadays, if you put the clock and chime in the water, even the wind and waves will not make a sound, let alone the rocks. It was not until the Tang Dynasty that Li Bo began to look for this site and found a pair of rocks by the pool and beat them on it. The sound of stones in the south of Chi is heavy and vague, while the sound of stones in the north of Chi is crisp and high. After hitting the drumstick, the sound was still floating, and the lingering sound gradually disappeared. He thought he had been named. However, I doubt this statement. Stones can clang everywhere, but this stone is named after "Zhong". Why?

On the day of Ding Chou in June of the seventh year of Yuanfeng, I set out from Qi 'an and went to Linyou by boat. My eldest son, Mai Su, will be appointed as the county magistrate of Dexing County in Raozhou. By the way, I will send him to Hukou County to observe the so-called "Shi Zhongshan". The monk in the temple on the mountain sent a child with an axe and picked one or two pieces among the rocks, with a bang. Naturally, I will laugh and not believe it. At night, it was just a mysterious moonlight, so we only took a boat with Michael and rowed under the cliff in Shi Zhongshan. Huge rocks stand abruptly, as high as several thousands of feet, just like beasts and ghosts, trying to fight with people hazily; And the eagle perched on the mountain peak, hearing people's voices, also flew up in surprise, singing and flying into the sky. The old man coughed and laughed in the valley. Someone said, "This is a stork barking!" "I was thinking about going back when suddenly there was a loud noise in the water, and" drumming "kept ringing like a bell and drum. The people on board were afraid. But slowly observing, it turns out that this mountain is full of stone cracks, and you can't see its depth. This sound is produced when microwaves flow into these caves and ripples. The boat rowed back to the middle of the two peaks, and there was a big stone in the middle of the current near the harbor, which could seat 100 people. The center of the rock is empty, and there are many holes in it. These holes interact with the wind and the current, making a "bang" sound, which echoes the above-mentioned "bang, bang, hum" sound, just like playing music. So I smiled and said to Michael, "Do you understand? What is buzzing is Zhou's silent bell, and what is banging is Wei Zhuangzi's bell. The ancients didn't fool us! "

If you don't see and hear things, you can judge whether they exist just by guessing, ok? What Li Daoyuan saw and heard was probably the same as mine, but it was not detailed; Literati, after all, don't sail off the cliff at night, so it's impossible to know. Fishermen and sailors know it, but they can't tell why: that's why the correct explanation can't spread all over the world. So people with shallow knowledge will knock and knock with axes and hammers to explore the reasons, and they think they have explored the truth. Therefore, I specially wrote it down, feeling sorry for Li Daoyuan's simplicity and laughing at Li Bo's shallowness.
