According to documents, during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, a knowledgeable master and three disciples came to the riverside mountain in Maling Township, xuyong county, Luzhou City. There is a semicircle hole in the mountain called Liang Qingdong. The mage found that this place is surrounded by mountains and waters, and the terrain is excellent. It is a rare land of geomantic omen, so the mage decided to build a Buddha statue on the cliff of this cave cliff. Master and three disciples carved 222 Buddha statues of different sizes day and night. The highest Buddha statue is 2 17cm, and the lowest is only 17cm. It is a rare large-scale grotto sculpture in South Sichuan.
Unfortunately, the master died soon after the Buddha statue was completed, leaving only three disciples guarding the cool cave. 199 1 year, these Buddha statues were discovered by archaeologists. After more than 400 years of history, they are of great artistic value and are listed as cultural relics protection units in Sichuan Province. However, the location of the Buddha statue here is also half a day's journey from the nearest village, so it is extremely difficult to protect cultural relics, but if no one guards it, thieves will patronize it. So in 1997, Zhaoyong Liu and his wife Kang Guangqing volunteered to go to Liangqingdong to protect the Buddha statue.
The couple are over 60 years old, and their three children are married. As parents, they don't need to worry, so it doesn't matter. The children were worried that their parents living in the cave would get sick. There was nothing there, so they built a hut on the cliff not far from the Buddha statue. Although there is a place to live, the humidity in the cave cliff is heavy. When it rains, the cliff top always drips, and the old couple's rheumatism has never been alleviated.
Despite the hard life, the couple never wanted to give up. Zhaoyong Liu and his wife clean and maintain the Buddha statue every day. They also opened a vegetable garden near Liangqingdong, raised some poultry and lived a real pastoral life. But after cleaning, there was nothing to do, and the longer I guarded the Buddha statue, the more I felt lonely in the mountains, so Liu Chaoyong took a dog and a cat from the foot of the mountain and used it for fun in Doby at ordinary times.
They have been guarding the Buddha statue for more than 20 years. On several occasions, they really met thieves who came to the head of the Buddha statue in large areas at night, all in droves. But never imagined that the Buddha statue in the mountain was still guarded, and Liu Chaoyong also asked his wife to call the police to inform the government that the thieves could only return in vain.
Up to this year, Liu Chaoyong and his wife have been guarding the Buddha statue in Qingliangdong for 23 years, but they have never received subsidies, because some experts say that they are voluntary and the government cannot give them subsidies. However, if Liu Chaoyong and others wanted money to protect the Buddha statue, they would have gone back to their hometown because of the harsh living environment in the cave or out of a sense of responsibility for national cultural relics. They persisted for 23 years.
Now the Cool Cave has become a tourist attraction, which is very convenient for tourists in go on road trip, but the couple did not give up, because it is no longer a responsibility, but a belief.
