One of the six counties in Huizhou.

"I have never dreamed of Huizhou in my life."

Although Wuyuan belongs to Jiangxi today, Jianxian County has been one of the six counties in ancient Huizhou for more than 1000 years, which experienced the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Huizhou is an ancient geographical concept. From the Song Dynasty to the late Qing Dynasty, the name Huizhou was used for 780 years, and the six counties under its jurisdiction remained unchanged.

The first batch of 16 counties include Shexian, yi county, Xiuning, Qimen, Jixi and Wuyuan. The first four counties are Huangshan City, Anhui Province, Jixi County is Xuancheng City, Anhui Province, and Wuyuan County is Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province.

Every county in Huizhou is a famous historical and cultural city, some built by mountains and some by rivers, with a long history and profound cultural accumulation. Most villages follow the old system and have simple folk customs. Wuyuan, located in a remote mountain village, retains all the charm of ancient Huizhou.

The style of writing is flourishing and talented people come forth in large numbers.

Wuyuan is the hometown of celebrities such as Neo-Confucianism educator Zhu, Zhan Tianyou, the father of railways, and Jin Yong, a famous novelist. From the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, there were 552 scholars in the county, leaving behind more than 3 100 works of scholars in previous dynasties, including 172 of the Yearbook of Sikuquanshu.

The village has respected Confucianism since ancient times, attached importance to education, and its style of writing is prosperous. It focuses on Huizhou cultural phenomena that reached their peak in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, such as the feudal ethical culture of Zhu Cheng's neo-Confucianism, the clan culture mixed with ethnic groups, the geomantic culture created by villages, and the Huizhou merchant culture that is good at Confucianism. Therefore, the historical and cultural connotation is profound.

Huizhou architecture with harmony between man and nature

The architectural layout of Wuyuan is generally based on the theory of Yin-Yang and Five Elements, and the nature is carefully observed and utilized to achieve the realm of "harmony between man and nature". Generally, houses are surrounded by mountains and rivers, with streets, white walls and tiles scattered in the foothills or jungles. Dark green and black and white set each other off, reflecting the unity of man and nature.

Wuyuan is characterized by rolling mountains and numerous streams and ponds. Residential buildings are surrounded by mountains and rivers, with the help of landscape pattern.

The walls are white and blue, the green hills are blue, and nature and architecture are completely integrated.

Huizhou architectural groups pay more attention to the surrounding environment in layout, which refers to mountainous mountains, vegetation in water, or mountains separated by water, or mountains and rivers, and strive to integrate artificial buildings with natural landscapes, make the home environment elegant and picturesque, and maintain the natural harmony between man and nature.

Wuyuan's "Three Carvings" art has a long history. It originated in the Tang Dynasty and reached its peak in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Its emergence and development have four social backgrounds: first, the prosperity of Huizhou merchants; Second, Huizhou's style of writing is flourishing; Thirdly, the feudal housing hierarchy made the wealthy but not expensive Huizhou merchants have to worry about the layout and decoration of their houses; Fourth, Huizhou "has many skills in the city". During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Huizhou made every effort to create extremely favorable conditions and opportunities for the glory of the Three Carvings.

The contents of the three sculptures include figures, landscapes, flowers and birds, animals, clouds, palindromes, sweet Bo Gu, literary and art circles, operas and stories. There are also some geometric patterns, some realistic, some freehand and some abstract, which can be said to be all-encompassing.

In 2006, Wuyuan "Three Carvings" was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage.
