Why is Nanjing called Zijin South?

Nanjing is called "Zijin South" for two main reasons:

1. According to the ancient custom of taking mountains and rivers as place names, there is a mountain in the eastern suburb of Nanjing called Zhongshan, with purple-gold shale. Therefore, people take "Zijin South" Mountain as the city name to express their love and respect for this land.

During the Three Kingdoms period, Liu Bei sent Zhuge Liang to Nanjing. He lamented the superior terrain of Nanjing, calling it "the Dragon Pan in Zhongshan, the tiger in the stone, and this imperial palace". Because Nanjing is located in Long Mai, where the wind and water flow, Purple Mountain has also been endowed with the beautiful meaning of "purple gas comes from the east" and has become a treasure trove of geomantic omen recognized by emperors in past dynasties.

Therefore, the title "Zijin South" not only expresses the praise of mountains and rivers, but also reflects the love and respect for this land of Nanjing.
