Couplets at the main entrance of Guandi Temple in Quanzhou, Fujian.

The first part: justice and decency is no problem, but the second part: what are the benefits of treachery in the temple?

It means: a gentleman can enter without worship; It's useless without a gentleman coming in.

The couplets warn the world that it's okay to treat people fairly and honestly, even if you enter the temple gate and don't worship Guan Di. Treacherous and treacherous people may not buy it even if they enter the temple gate.

This couplet is in front of Wucheng Hall, the main hall of Guandi Temple in Quanzhou, Fujian, which shows that Gong Di's integrity is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. This plaque introducing the word "Yi" is Zhu's inscription. On the right side of the mountain gate, Guan Yu's red hare and a red-faced groom are enshrined; On the left is a sacrifice, Yue Fei's snow horse and a white-faced groom.

Historical background of Guandi Temple in Quanzhou;

In the Ming Dynasty, Japanese pirates disturbed the territory. In order to appease the people and protect the safety of coastal cities, Zhu Yuanzhang ordered the construction of Guandi Temple. Until the end of Qing Dynasty, there were more than 100 temples in Quanzhou.

People hold it high as the representative of the "Wu Temple" and compare it with Confucius' "Confucius Temple". The Guandi Temple in Tonghuaimen is the largest existing Wu Temple in Fujian, and it is also a special temple for ancient Quanzhou officials and gentry to worship Wu Sheng.

There is no textual research on the founding date and initial regulations of Tonghuai Guandi Temple, which is said to have been built from the Southern Tang Dynasty to the Song Dynasty. In the third year of the Republic of China, the Guandi Temple in Tonghuaimen was dedicated to Yue Fei, and was later renamed the Guan Yue Temple in Tonghuaimen. The existing temple seat faces south and consists of Wucheng Temple, Chongxian Temple and Sanyi Temple side by side.

As an important branch of Minnan culture and even Fujian-Taiwan culture, Quanzhou Guandi culture has played an important role in promoting cross-strait civil exchanges.
