Influenced by the left-wing literary trend of thought, Shen, Chen Zhuokun, Hu Yichuan, Li Keran and others formed the "Eighteen Arts Society" in 1930, and created many woodcut works against imperialism, feudalism and oppression.
After the "September 18th Incident", he joined Hangxuelian, participated in the negotiation of Zhejiang Education Department as one of the student representatives, destroyed the residence of Zhang Daofan, the director of education, and won the student struggle.
