Pu 'er, an ancient place name, originated from hani language, which means "Puzhai" and "Er" means "Shuiwan Village". In the Tang Dynasty, Pu 'er was named Buli, belonging to Yinsheng Festival (now Simao and Xishuangbanna). Yinsheng tea is the predecessor of Pu 'er tea, which was called Pu 'er tea in Yuan Dynasty and Pu 'er tea in Wanli period of Ming Dynasty. It was very popular in Qing Dynasty.
