It took ten and a half months to read "Yuewei Cottage" I have finished reading "Notes from the Thatched Cottage", which is said to be one of the must-read books in trivial time. This book is a collection of trivial folk stories by Ji Xiaolan. You can read a short story in a few minutes, which is more suitable for passing the short and boring time in life. I can only say that it is more suitable for most people, but it is not suitable for me. First, there were too many stories to remember. Except for the story about a strange woman named Liu, all the others were forgotten. Second, there is no sense of joy, and if there is, it is fleeting. Reading this kind of book, the joy comes not from empathy, but from curiosity. In addition to the stories in the book about the fox becoming a spirit, other anecdotes have been read in the station tabloids a long time ago. It's just that the times have changed, and the wonders of the past and present are the same. There is no curiosity or joy. In my opinion, it's just like tasteless. Anyway, I had to do something with my trivial time, so I persevered.

According to the previous format of writing the reflections after reading the sentences, this book is not suitable because it is too trivial. But if you still want to leave something behind, then write about ghosts and gods. This is also a major content in the book.

Fox monsters take revenge, ghosts avenge themselves, and gods live in seclusion. I don’t know who came up with these things first. Ji Xiaolan described what others saw and heard vividly and seriously. Ji Xiaolan himself also heard ghosts talking about people. It all feels like it's real. What meaning does Ji Xiaolan want to convey? Are you saying that ghosts and gods are real, or are you saying not to do bad things, or are you saying that ghosts and gods are all science fiction?

Do ghosts and gods really exist? I haven’t seen them anyway, but I wouldn’t stand in the middle of the world and shout loudly where the ghosts are? Mr. Ye is a good example. If ghosts and gods really come, the little heart can't bear it. There are things that others say exist, and things that others say don’t exist, and things that I have never seen. I'm taking a maybe-maybe-not attitude. Just like many people now claim to be number one in the world and invincible. I think I am invincible at this moment, and I may have an opponent or an invincible opponent at the next moment. Are there any rivals? It still depends on chance and timing. Maybe tomorrow, maybe a hundred years, maybe trillions of years. We have already seen world champions, and someone will break the record eons from now. Then will the ghosts and gods seen by our ancients be seen by people hundreds of millions of years later? The reason why we can't see it is because we don't have the opportunity. The ghosts and gods don't want to pay attention to us now. As Teacher Kong, an older generation of intellectuals, said, keep a respectful distance from ghosts and gods. That's enough. There is no need to look for ghosts and gods, and there is no need to be afraid that ghosts and gods will come to us. There is no point in thinking about eating well and sleeping well.

But in fact, people have been afraid of ghosts and worshiped gods since ancient times. Today, there are still many people who fear ghosts and gods and approach them. A note should be posted on the roof of the house: "The Grand Duke is here, the gods abdicate"; no matter how high the level of knowledge is, when moving to a new home, one must read Feng Shui and burn some yellow paper; no matter how old an official is, they all know that the diagonal corner opposite the door is the symbol of wealth. Bit. We can’t help but ask when ghosts and gods were implanted in people’s spiritual world. Was it before Buddhism or after Buddhism?

I read a few explanations of Buddhist scriptures and dared to say a few words. Buddha is spreading wisdom, and this kind of wisdom is not attached to appearance, and does not adhere to any superficial things. But the Buddha also described the Western Paradise, which is not just an appearance. In short, it is a good place. The purpose of human life can be classified into two types: to get what you want, or to get rid of what you don’t want. The Paradise is promoted as a place that people want to go to. If you want to go to this place, you need to believe in Buddhism. But there are still some people who are not interested here. For example, a person doesn't like to be in a daze. If he could only be in a daze in the Paradise, then he would not go back. So on the basis of the paradise world, hell appeared again, the hell that Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva wanted to clear. Whether this hell and the eighteen levels of hell are the same thing will be studied later. Hell is a bad place anyway. If you don't like going to this place, you need to become a Buddhist. Well, both needs of human beings can be satisfied by belief in Buddhism, so why not. But this is not the real Buddha. A true Buddha is indifferent. Whether it is the paradise world or hell, just be content with whatever happens, without likes or dislikes.

This is the state that one should reach when studying Buddhism. It’s just that many people only care about two extremes, good and bad.

Next, we began to make up and interpret the appearance of ghosts and monsters. Individuals learn Buddhism and become enlightened and become Arhats, with long eyebrows and long arms, etc. Learning Buddhism enables others to become enlightened and become Bodhisattvas, Manjushri, Samantabhadra and Ksitigarbha. Those who have not yet had the opportunity to live peacefully and peacefully in the human world, live long and have boundless magical power. Tathagata had a disciple who seemed to have lived a thousand years. Those who do not learn Buddhism or realize the Tao will continue to reincarnate. If you do something bad, you will enter the ghost realm, animal realm, etc. Learn Buddhism to get rid of the ego and the cognition of persistence. Since you are not attached to reincarnation, there will be souls that jump out of reincarnation, and then there will be lonely ghosts. Ghosts can take any form, speak any language including human, and appear anywhere. But in order to make the logic clearer, lonely ghosts will not appear in good people's homes, otherwise there will be no point in learning Buddhism and doing good deeds. At this time, learning Buddhism has practical value.

People who study Buddhism will have longevity and will have magic power. What about animals? Learning Buddhism is applicable to all living things. If even a fox can become an immortal, then a fool can also become a Buddha. Animals can become immortals, but what about dead animals? The stone umbrella scroll can become an immortal as long as you practice it. This reflects the vastness of Buddhism. It also gives everything a chance to become immortal, and also allows people to live under the fear of television spirits, refrigerator spirits, toilet spirits, toothbrush spirits, and cake spirits.

It is said that Buddhism is true faith, and learning Buddhism can resist all kinds of ghosts and monsters that come from Buddhism. And using methods such as dancing with gods to drive away ghosts has become superstitious. The reason is that it is not a systematic thing. For example, solving a problem using the method explained by the teacher is the correct solution, while using the answer found on Baidu is a wrong solution. Although the effect is the same. But it is not a formal way to solve problems. Many things have been forcefully inserted into the Buddhist system, all trying to take advantage of Buddhism and get a share of the pie. Lego toys were selling very well, and then Taobao launched Lepin, all trying to squeeze into the large system of assembled toys. When Lepin dominates the market because of its cheap prices, it’s time for Lego to consider cracking down on piracy. You can share a piece of the pie, but if you eat too much, you won’t want to.

The above is just random fabrication without any basis. I don’t know much about Buddhism’s system of humans, Buddhas and ghosts. I don’t understand the origins of legends about ghosts and gods. I don’t know who comes first between Buddhism and folk legends about ghosts and gods. All I know is that without the shock of folk tales of ghosts and gods, there wouldn’t be so many people studying Buddhism. If no one learns Buddhism, Buddhism will not develop and spread, and it will be difficult for Buddhism to spread to this day. Although I am crazy about studying Buddhism, turtles, carps, and snakes are released indiscriminately, destroying the natural environment. Today's Buddha also collected some money to buy a car and live in a bungalow. These are just individual issues. The Buddha's spirit spread among people and indeed saved some people. This is its positive significance. On the other hand, if we accept help from others today, this person is likely to be influenced by Buddhism or by ghosts and fairies. Should we atheists thank these ghosts and goblins?

~~~~~~Too long to watch~~~~~~~~~
Short version: Where can there be no good without evil, and where can there be no Buddha without ghosts. What we call Buddha today has moved far away from the original definition. There are too many things that Buddha has to deal with these days.
