Cai Shubiao, director of Shantou Sports Bureau, introduced that the Swimming Management Center of the State Sports General Administration and the China Swimming Association visited Shantou in September this year. The Zheng Da Gymnasium of Xinjinjiang River to the mouth of Jinye Island is 13km long, 200m wide and 2-4m deep, and the water quality is Grade 2, which meets the standards for hosting competitions.
Cai Shubiao said that with the consent of Shantou Municipal Government, Shantou Sports Bureau has formally submitted its bid to the Swimming Management Center of the State Sports General Administration and the China Swimming Association, and submitted it to FINA, which has agreed and published it online. Cai Shubiao said that next year FINA will hold the 13 open water men's and women's swimming competition, in which Shantou will be the only event in Chinese mainland.
