The Forbidden City in Beijing is the imperial palace of China in Ming and Qing Dynasties, formerly known as the Forbidden City, located in the center of Beijing's central axis. The Forbidden City is centered on three halls, covering an area of about 720,000 square meters, with a building area of about10.5 million square meters. There are more than 70 large and small palaces. According to legend, there are 9,999.5 rooms in the Forbidden City. In fact, according to 1973 experts' field survey, there are 8707 rooms in the Forbidden City.
