Where is the Flame Mountain in Journey to the West?

The Flame Mountain in the Journey to the West is located in the northern edge of Turpan Basin in Xinjiang, which is the northern line of the ancient Silk Road.

Xinjiang Flame Mountain is the most famous scenic spot in Turpan. Located in the northern margin of Turpan Basin, north of the ancient Silk Road, it is mainly composed of red sandstone, conglomerate and mudstone of Jurassic, Cretaceous and Tertiary in Mesozoic. The locals call it "Qizil Tage", which means "Red Mountain".

The cause of the formation of the flaming mountain

The heat and dryness of Flame Mountain are attributed to the unique natural and geographical conditions here. The formation of the Flame Mountain was formed by sand accumulation about10.70 billion years ago. At that time, the climate was very hot, and the iron in the accumulated sandstone soil was oxidized at high temperature, forming a large number of red iron oxide. Later, with the movement of the earth's crust, it rose into a mountain and suddenly rose in the depths of Turpan basin, forming a flaming mountain with a red bottom.
