Recall the ancient city of Zigui, Guizhou

This is a mountain in front of the house. At first glance, it is unremarkable. If I told you that there used to be a small town at the foot of the mountain that spanned thousands of years, I think you should have some strange ideas. I am familiar with this feeling, just like the first time I saw her photos during the Republic of China and read the origin of her every hundred or even thousand years. The more you know, the more shocked you are. Like an unknown old man, it took many years to know that she had such a colorful life. Fortunately, twenty years ago, I looked at this thousand-year-old city across a river every day, and my voice and face were still there. Unfortunately, many landmark scenic spots have not been there in person, which is a great pity. This also made me interested in understanding the history of this small town. I want to write down this history that happened around me and tell it to you.

Let's put a picture of 100 years with a bright future.

This is an architect from Germany: Ernst Berschmann. He took a photo of this small town when 1909 passed through the Three Gorges.

Thanks to this German architect, he left such a precious image. This is also the earliest video recording related to the town that I can find at present. Pay attention to the shape of the top of the mountain. Compared with now, there is not much difference at all. This once gave me a feeling of time travel. Also let me really experience the features of this small town 100 years ago. The city walls are intact, and there are rows of houses in the city.

The name of this town is as colorful as history. The Western Zhou Dynasty was the "returning home", and after Qin Shihuang was the "returning home". In the Western Han Dynasty, it was named Zigui because "Qu Yuan had a virtuous sister who heard about exile and came back". During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, it was renamed Changning. Sui dynasty, changed back to Zigui. During the Tang, Song and Yuan Dynasties, it became the return of the country. Then I kept playing drums back and forth between Guizhou and Zigui. It was not until the founding of New China that the name Zigui was determined, and it was also the seat of the county.

Although the official name is Zigui, as a local, she has always been called a native of Guizhou, and the older generation used to call her "Chengguan". Guizhou once had a more earthy name: Hulu City. As for why it is called this name, this map drawn by an unknown dynasty should explain everything.

Is it like a fat gourd with its head held high?

The ancient city of Guizhou was not on the north bank of Hebei at first, but in Jiang Nanan where I live now. There used to be a king city in Chu State, which was described by Li Daoyuan in Notes on Water Classics: "The city was built on the ridge, with 2 10 steps, with the stream facing the valley, the mountain facing the river, Danyang city in the north, and the city built on the mountain, with 280 steps around. On both sides of the northeast, I noticed that it faces a unique stream, with pavilions and streams in the west and rivers in the south. There are steep cliffs and a solid belief in heaven. " Chu Zixiong began to seal the capital of Danyang. "Chuwangcheng is the original location of Guizhou. And now the location used to be called Liu Beicheng. The name can be traced back to the Three Kingdoms period, when Mr. Guan was defeated in Maicheng. Liu Bei went out of Sichuan to avenge his brother and was defeated by Yiting in Yichang. On the way back to Sichuan, we assembled and dispersed troops near the small town to build a city against the enemy. Because of the temporary construction, it is just a tucheng. During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, a once-in-a-century rainstorm caused the wall foundation of the King of Chu to collapse and crack, and the house collapsed. At that time, it was well known that it took three years to restore Liubeicheng in Jiangbei and Guizhou moved to Jiangbei. Chu King City gradually disappeared in the erosion of years, leaving only a Chu King well, and the spring water is still the same, benefiting one party.

This restoration is still made of mud, but five new city gates have been built: He Yingmen in the east, Jingxian Gate in the south, Zhankui Gate in the west, Gong Ji Gate in the north and Dingxing Gate by the river. This Dingxingmen is very uncomfortable for the local elderly, because it is just at the bottom of this "gourd city", wearing the bottom of the gourd and breaking the feng shui of Zigui.

Two or three years later, the new well-known began to replace the earth wall with brick wall. In this way, more than 200 years later, during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty (about 180 1), it was also known that it was a year to seek funds from the court to rebuild the ancient city. It took another three years to replace the brick wall in the ancient city of Guizhou with large bluestone, and the glutinous rice was steamed and mixed with lime to make the bluestone wall strong and abnormal. This is when I saw the city gate and the city wall when I was a child.

Hundreds of years ago, we didn't know the style of the ancient city of Guizhou, but we can still get a glimpse of it from the poems left by some literati. For example, Fan Chengda's "Entering Zigui" in the Song Dynasty:

The smell of the backcountry paved the way. Another example is Lu You's "Guizhou Guangxiao Temple Rest":

The scene of depression and ruin is beyond words. In contrast, I prefer the Second Return to the State written by Sun Mi in the Yuan Dynasty:

This is more life-oriented, but it can only be imagined literally. In my mind, this ancient city is very clear, and her memory is like this:

There are busy docks:

Climbing up the stairs along the river, there is an arch:

Enter the archway, continue to go up, and set each other off becomes an interest with the ancient city gate:

I often meet some foreign tourists visiting here:

Continue to go up, it is a bustling street:

Vendors crowded the open space along the street;

It will be quiet in the afternoon:

As the Three Gorges Dam began to intercept and store water, the county moved again, and this small town that spanned thousands of years also disappeared at the bottom of the river, returning to history in dust. These vivid scenes also remain in the minds of our generation.

Born lucky, I experienced the last elegance of this thousand-year-old city, and those iconic symbols and buildings have also been continued and passed down in Xinxian County. Let's quote a poem by Wang Shu in the Qing Dynasty in "Bo Gui Zhou" as the end:
