Although Commissioner Wang Ping’s remarks are surprising and inexplicable, they are not completely groundless. To sum up, she saw the problem but prescribed the wrong prescription. To put it simply, there are three problems that Commissioner Wang Ping sees: one is the continued widening of the gap between urban and rural areas, resulting in the loss of rural talents and the decline and loss of traditional culture; the other is rural poverty caused by expensive college tuition. The unbearable burden on the family has led to a situation where "one person goes to school and the whole family falls back into poverty"; third, scarcity and limited employment and development opportunities cause tremendous pressure and difficulties for college graduates from rural areas.
It should be said that all three of these do exist. Over the past 30 years of reform and opening up, rural life has improved greatly, but the urban-rural income gap has also widened from 2.4 times in the early 1980s to 3.6 times today. Under the "siphon" effect of the huge gap between urban and rural areas, rural students are unwilling to return to their hometowns, and there is a lack of talents in rural areas, resulting in the symptoms of "hollow villages". As for the high tuition fees of college and the difficulty of finding a job for college students, it is an old problem.
The absurd thing is that although Commissioner Wang Ping saw the problems, he did not put forward proposals to eliminate these social problems. Instead, he rationalized these problems, or at least assumed that the problems were unsolvable and turned to rural areas. Many children give up going to college or going to the city. This is completely the wrong prescription!
If the suggestions of Commissioner Wang Ping are followed, China will transform into a "caste system" society: the high castes will live in the cities and enjoy the fruits of reform and modernization; the low castes will only be able to survive for generations. Living in the countryside and doing menial, low-paying jobs - isn't this a huge historical step back?
Faced with the obvious unfairness and unfeasibility of the suggestions, Commissioner Wang Ping was completely unaware of them. Instead, he kept chattering with a smug look on his face. This once again highlighted the narrow-mindedness, short-sightedness and selfishness of some elites, and also made the We once again realized the necessity of reform of the two sessions. Lin Shuguang, deputy to the National People's Congress, inspector of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Health, and president of the Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, said that we should not blame the current problems in cities and rural areas on improving the education of others. He said that this kind of thing should be viewed separately. In the 30 years of reform and opening up, the civilization level of the people has been greatly improved. It is normal for students to hope for a broad world after graduation. In recent years, the government has attached great importance to building a new socialist countryside and has put a lot of effort into it. With the continuity of national policies and the continuous development of the economy, in the future, the new socialist countryside will be a treasure. We should not be short-sighted and only see the countryside. On the backward side, if infrastructure construction has caught up and economic conditions have improved, then that will be a geomantic treasure. After this platform is established, talents will naturally flow to rural areas. Just because there are current problems in this or that area, we cannot deny the role of quality education in people.
