Is this a good movie after all?

In our childhood world, there are always many unsolved mysteries. This "Laoshan Taoist" is the same to me. The endless hip flask, the fairy coming down from the mural, the Chang 'e flying from the Moon Palace, and the skill of piercing the wall all make people stunned.

Perhaps it is something that does not conform to the realistic logic, which makes us have more doubts and thoughts about the surface and interior of this world. In short, through those mysterious things, I can't help but feel a sense of awe.

Looking back many years later, I was surprised that the combination of ink painting and puppet, two elements of China, made it an out-and-out China animation, which was no less than that of other nationalities.

In the original "Strange Tales from a Lonely Studio", we can say a few words about Wang Qi's trip to Laoshan, but as an important part of the comic book, this paragraph is described in detail from reading idle books at home, dreaming, and then crossing the mountains to Laoshan, which is a great adaptation.

This kind of foreshadowing is different from the direct connection of the original work, but it is also interesting. In fact, humor and satire are the biggest characteristics of this film. Wang Qi's mountain climbing scene is very detailed. As the background, China's ink and wash landscape painting has a faint taste, the zoom-in and fade-out of the long lens, and the vivid combination of seemingly dull landscape and puppet characters, which has a stunning effect. It is a mixture of two completely different textures, but it is skillfully combined, which is not only unobtrusive, but also highlights the characteristics of both. The description of the journey is the stage of China Art Exhibition. It may not be so urgent and utilitarian, but in the hardships along the way, the audience was curious and sold off, which made the story behind particularly wonderful.

A good director does not impose on others, leaving enough room for the audience to think and give full play to their imagination. This is an unexpected discovery in such a vast space with no obvious direction. I think it is the director's contribution to feel my existence in different time and space without familiar stories. So a movie with audience participation is really finished.
