The Unique Style of Yuantong Temple

The octagonal pavilion in front of the temple and the surrounding waterside cloister have been completed, which has opened up Tong Yuan scenic spots, scenic spots, main entrance and financial trail, and formed a Buddhist holy land integrating gardens, landscapes and religious temples. Yuantong Temple has the magnificent Tong Yuan Scenic Square, the Tong Yuan Treasure Hall, the octagonal pavilion, and the unique Buddhist temple in Chinese mainland-the Copper Buddha Hall. The bronze statue of Sakyamuni in the temple (3.5 meters high and weighing 4 tons) and the statue of Sakyamuni in Tongyuan Hall have different shapes, which shows the difference between the two major schools of Buddhism and is an eye-opener. Yuantong Temple, with its majestic appearance, majestic temples, solemn Buddha statues, unique pavilions, rugged rocks, steep walls and verdant trees, has attracted poets of all ages and left many poems of praise, and has always been one of the eight scenic spots in Kunming. Now, after a major overhaul, it is more elegant, just like a beautiful Jiangnan garden. Architecturally speaking, it strives for quietness in the noise, sees the big from the small, and forms a unique Shui Yuan Buddhist temple with the scenery of Luofeng Mountain as the background. It has a unique style in China's gardening art. The green hills, clear water, colorful fish, white bridge, Hong Ting and Zhu Dian of Yuantong Temple complement each other and are picturesque. Different from other Buddhist temples, after entering the mountain gate, it is not uphill, but downhill along the central axis. Daxiong Hall is located at the lowest point of the temple. This temple, facing south, is very magnificent. The whole temple is centered on Tongyuan Hall, with a pool in front and corridors on both sides connecting the opposite hall, forming a unique style of waterside temple and pond courtyard. There is a statue of Buddha III carved in Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty. There are two pillars in the center of the main hall, which are10m high. Each pillar is carved with a colorful dragon and 500 arhats, which are excellent works in Buddhist temples in China.

Among the existing Buddhist temples in Dianchi Lake area, the earliest and oldest is Yuantong Temple at the foot of Tong Yuan Mountain. The largest Buddhist temple in Kunming is also the seat of Buddhist associations in Yunnan Province and Kunming City.
