Crab basket was first used as a decoration on the building beam, which was invented by Huang Kaixian, a wizard of Chaozhou woodcarving in the late Qing Dynasty. Legend has it that Huang Kaixian was embarrassed to see a fisherman carrying a crab basket to catch up with the night market, and the crab in the basket climbed out under the guidance of the light. This interesting daily scene inspired Huang Kaixian's artistic inspiration. After research and numerous experiments, he finally carved a half-shore crab basket and decorated it in the ancient Qinglong Temple in Chaozhou, which caused a sensation in Chaozhou City. Since then, the crab basket has become one of the important themes to show Chaozhou woodcarving skills, and the half-shore crab basket has gradually turned into a circular carved crab basket, becoming an independent sculpture display.
