China's Four Famous Jade Rankings

The four famous jade in China refer to Hetian jade in Xinjiang, lantian jade in Xi of Shaanxi, dushan jade in Nanyang of Henan and Xiuyan in Liaoning.

Hetian jade

It is mainly distributed in the northern slope of Kunlun Mountain in shache-Tashkurgan, Hotan-Khotan and Qiemo County, Xinjiang, stretching 1500 km. * * * There are 9 producing areas. Hetian jade is mainly tremolite-actinolite, and contains a small amount of diopside, serpentine, graphite, magnets and other minerals, forming white, turquoise, black, yellow and other different colors, mostly monochromatic jade, with a few variegated colors. Jade is translucent, greasy and shiny after polishing, and its hardness is between 5.5 and 6.5 degrees.

lantian jade

The primary jade deposit in ancient lantian jade has not been discovered. Modern mining lantian jade Mine is located in Hongmensi Village, Yuchuan Town, Lantian County, about 35 kilometers away from the county seat. The ore-bearing rocks are Archean biotite schist and amphibole gneiss. Jade is fine-grained marble, mainly composed of calcite. According to the mineral composition and appearance characteristics, jade can be divided into five types: the first is white marble; The second is light beige serpentine marble; The third is yellow serpentine marble; The fourth is apple serpentine marble; The fifth category is banded tremolite serpentine marble.

Lantian jade belongs to serpentine diopside. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that minerals are mainly composed of serpentine marble, tremolite, olivine, turquoise, diabase and brucite.

Lantian jade is white, beige, yellow-green, apple green, green-white and other colors, with glass luster, greasy luster and slightly transparent to translucent. It is blocky, banded and spotted, with dense, delicate and tough texture. Mohs hardness is 2-6 degrees and density is about 2.7 g/cm3. In lantian jade, there are jadeite, jet, colorful jade, white marble and topaz. Hard texture, bright color, luster and fine texture. Because it contains silicon oxide, aluminum, magnesium, sodium, calcium, copper and other elements, it is often a jade with many colors, such as milky white, blue, yellow, red and so on. It is a good raw material for jade carving and making handicrafts.

dushan jade

Also known as "Nanyang Jade" or "Henan Jade", it is produced in Dushan in the north of Nanyang City. There are also "monologues" for short It is one of the four famous jade in China. Dushan jade is hard and dense, delicate and soft, with transparent luster and various colors. There are six kinds of pigments, including green, white, yellow, purple, red and white, and 77 kinds of colors, which are the first-class raw materials for jade carving.

Xiuyan jade

Jade is a kind of nephrite, named after Xiuyan, Liaoning Province, and belongs to serpentine. It is famous for its moist texture, delicate crystal, firm nature, good transparency and diverse colors, and has been valued and cherished by people since ancient times.

It is formed in the metamorphic marble of magnesium carbonate rock, and its appearance is turquoise or yellow-green, translucent, waxy after polishing, and its hardness is 3.5 to 5 degrees. The jade used in Hongshan Culture in the Neolithic Age, produced in Xiyugou, is a uranium ore, commonly known as old jade, and is tremolite nephrite. Most of the jades unearthed from Fu Hao's tomb in Shang Dynasty are similar to uranium jade in Xiuyan Wagou Mine. Xiuyu Mine in Wagou Mine has a long history and rich reserves. At present, it is the main jade mining area in China, accounting for about 60% of the national output.

Xiuyan County, located in Xiuyan, Liaoning, China, is a place with beautiful scenery, rich products and hidden wind and gas. After thousands of years of natural evolution, it has condensed the essence of thousands of years of mountains and rivers, thus producing a world-famous national treasure-xiuyan jade.

Xiuyan jade is one of the four famous jades in China, with a large output and many materials, ranking first among the "four famous jades". However, because of its low hardness, jadeite is easy to be worn off in the cleaning process, which makes the original weak luster gradually dim, far less than the brightness of jadeite. So jade is a low-grade jade material. However, when making large jade carving seats and small and medium-sized ornaments, it is still a popular jade species because of its low hardness requirements.
